Customer Review: Ruined my Thanksgiving Turkey

I used this thermometer for the first time on my Thanksgiving turkey. I was unaware that the calibration was so bad that it was reading 20+ degrees too low.
I roasted the turkey for the recommended time and the thermometer showed 135. I started checking it every 10 minutes and continued to cook for another 30 minutes. The thermometer never got to 160. I finally used my old instant thermometer which gave me a 180 reading so I pulled the turkey out of the oven. It was terribly overcooked.
I threw the thermometer away with most of the turkey. What a piece of junk.

There are many things about this thermometer we liked but the main thing that we didn't like is that it's pretty cheap. The functionality, and the ease of use is great. We especially liked that you could add the cap onto the back of it to extend the length. Great for testing in a hot oven. However, during our first use of it on Christmas Day the tip bent when we inserted it into the meat we were using it on. It still works and it didn't break off but it is now slightly crooked. Needless to say we were hoping for a much better quality product when it came to durability.Customer Review: nice thermometer

This is a great little compact thermometer. I will say right off that my button layout did not match the photo on amazon. Mine has the buttons all in one row. and are much smaller. The thermometer takes a little time to come up to temp so I wouldnt classify it as an "instant read" but it is quick enough to get an accurate reading within about 10-15 seconds.
It seems durable and has lasted about 7 months for me so far. I would recommend it to someone looking for a handheld thermometer that doesnt want to spend a huge amount of money for the "instant read" models.

Since a noted television and magazine cooking authority named this as their "best buy" in instant-read thermometers, and my old one had died, I ordered it. It does a terrific job, has easy-to-read results, and an intuitive "dashboard". The only thing that would make it better would be bigger buttons (so I wouldn't have to aim so carefully to hit the right one when I'm in a hurry) and a longer probe (especially when I use it on the barbeque grill). Those are small (literally!) complaints: if you need an instant-read thermometer (and you do), get this one.Customer Review: Nothing fancy but gets the job done.

I'm not a chef. I try to spend the least amount of time in the kitchen as possible in fact, and this thermometer helps me do just that. I can not believe I have waited this long to get a DIGITAL thermometer! Say goodbye to guessing whether the needle is going up still or if it is finished. So far this product has done exactly what I expected - stick it in the meat and get a reading in 5-6 seconds. I love it so far....although looking at other reviews I'm not sure what I'll do if the battery ever goes out...
