This was just the type device I wanted so I will be warned if the basement GFI kicks out and my freezer gets too warm. I just purchased $800 worth of products and it would be a tragedy if it all thawed. The alarm sound is noticable on the first floor but only if background noise (TVs, etc.)is low. I bought this for a chest freezer and it has been fine. I know it works, because when we were loading food we did it in stages. When the lid was opened for the second stage of food the alarm sounded and the light was on. Inexpensive way to add a freezer alarm to the freezer. I bought 2 of these because others had said that it works for the fridge and the freezer. Yes to the freezer and a big NO for the fridge. It's nice to have this on for the freezer in the event someone doesn't close it all the way and I really wish I could make it do that for the fridge.Customer Review: Junk

Bought two of these, both defective. What else can I say. Its a struggle to get them returned (from Amana). Alarm sounds 100% of the time, regardless of how it is installed or how many times it is reset. Thermometer say below zero, this alarm goes off all the time. Worthless.

This is the second alarm that we have purchased. The first one broke after several years. I believe the wire that goes into the freezer broke, but it alerted us to an open freezer door on several occasions. It definitely paid for itself. I just wish the alarm was a little louder.
