I searched long and wide for a low cost way to store my CD's and found these and bought a dozen of them. They're made out of pretty rough wood - think of the kind of wood that pallets are made of. The wood is about 1/4 thick and a few of the holders had splinters that needed to be sanded down. I arranged them vertically and horizontally and found that the vertical ones were nearly impossible to pull the CD's out - so they should all be arranged horizontally. They are well made, but kind of a tight fit to get the CD's into. I ended up painting mine with 2 coats of a high gloss paint. All in all - after the $ for the paint and paint supplies, I could have bought something made of metal for the same amount of money, so I was disappointed.
