Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brother CS6000i Sew Advance Sew Affordable 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine

Customer Review: Love this machine
Summary: 4 Stars

I received this machine just 3 days after ordering it. I pulled it out of the box and immediately threaded it and began testing the stitching, tensions, and the different stitches. The machine will stitch 850 stitches a minute without dancing around the table which I find a big relief. The singer machine I am replacing only sewed about 250 so it was tedious.

The machine sews very straight without much guidance which is very impressive to me. The utility and decorative stiches are actually usuable which in every other economy priced machine I have owned were not usable because they were more of an embarrassment and screamed loving hands at home..Not this machine..these stitches are not embarrassing and will be put to good use.

This package is a very good deal. The walking and darning feet alone are worth about $45 and the machine comes with all the best presser feet one needs to accomplish many tasks.

I am very happy with the smooth quality of the stitching and the quiet operation of both the motor and the needle hammer.

I have not had problems with the tensions...it was set loose when it came out of the box but I adjusted it and it is sewing perfectly. I like it so much better than my previous economy singer. For the money I am thrilled and can tell that this machine will carry me through many projects.

The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the removable bobbin cover. The bobbin cover should slide. This is such an unforgivable design flaw the machine looses a full star from my otherwise glowing opinion.

Customer Review: So far, so good.
Summary: 5 Stars

After putting this machine through a few preliminary tests and a solid week of sewing, it's been great so far.

I should mention that I took the other reviewers' advice and replaced the plastic bobbins with size 15 metal bobbins, and I've only used higher-quality machine thread with it, none of that all-purpose stuff.

It does seem that the factory-default tension is too tight on my machine. To keep plain cotton broadcloth from puckering, I have to sew with the tension wheel on 1 or 0 usually. That's the only thing I've found annoying.

I like the easy bobbin threading, (do it on the highest speed for best results,) and the push-button sewing with adjustable speeds is fun. The lowest speed is wonderful if you need to do slow-and-steady work, or not be too loud. At the slow-stitch setting, my husband can watch TV 20ft away, and the machine is no louder than our air conditioner. I do still prefer the foot pedal, but the push buttons have been fun to play with. The lever to easily lower the feed dogs is nice, for those who do free motion quilting. The variety of presserfeet and accessories that come with the machine is extensive as well. It really does have everything you need to get going, especially if you're a quilter.

Overall, there are many fun features, and the ease of this machine almost makes you feel like a better sewer. It's definitely not Mom's old machine that you love to hate. It's more of a "you've got quirks but I love you anyway" entry level machine. The price is right for the quality, at around $150.

Customer Review: This Brother is Fabulous!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this Machine 01/25/2011 and received it 01/28/2011. So far I am quite pleased with my purchase and can't brag enough. I have never seen a more detailed instruction book and I have been sewing for many years. The attachments are more than I expected. I previously had purchased a refurbished Singer on another website, out of the box it would not work, I returned it the next day. I was more than skeptical about buying one on another website but I have always had good luck with Amazon and I had been researching machines in my price range, so I gave it a try, I am glad I did.
I think I read every review written on Singer, Brother and Janome. Some of you have had trouble with bobbin thread and have stated not to use cheap thread, I am using Coats & Clark all purpose and have not had a minutes trouble. The first thing I did was go through all the goodies that came with it, went through the Instructuion book, wound a bobbin, threaded it and using DENIM folded over, proceeded to go through all the stitches. It worked like a charm and is very quiet.
I also read somewhere that you could not oil this machine. After talking to a Brother Dealer I understand why. Let me ask you, would you oil your Laptop? This is a computer and if you should accidently get OIL into the circuit it would ruin it. The dealer also told me you only need to service it only every 3 or 4 years. I will gladly pay $40.00 every year to keep this beauty in good condition. I am lucky to have 2 Dealers close to me.
I can't say enough about my Brother CS600i and Thank You Amazon.com!

Customer Review: WORKS NICELY, EVEN WITH JEANS
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a basic sewing machine, and was comparing a few different brands and models. After I red most of the reviews, I had a mixed feeling about this sewing machine because of some of the poor reviews. I couldn't place the order, but my husband had a couple pairs of pants that needed to be fixed. Considering that the price is roughly equal to four, five pairs of his pants, I decided to purchase it. The machine arrived two days after my order and the packaging was fine.

Both my husband and I are truly beginners and have used the machine to fix three pairs of pants, one jacket, and even one pair of jeans. I was really concerned to use the machine on the jeans since some reviews said that the machine did not work well with thick materials. But I needed to alter the length of the jeans, so I tried. At first, it did not work right. I bent one needle. Then we read the manual and it suggests a size 14 or 16 needle (the one bent was size 11). After I switched the needle and went slowly through the seams, I did not have any problem sewing the jeans.

I am very happy with how the machine works. It is very easy to use. And as some previous reviewers said, it is always a good idea to read through the manual. The machine is very compact and does not occupy much space. I do not have any problem using the foot pedal to adjust speed from slow to middle to fast. My husband, an engineer, was impressed by how smoothly the machine works and all the auto winding and threading functions. Now, I am even thinking of learning how to quilt.

Customer Review: yes!
Summary: 5 Stars

i have tried to sew for years. with budget limits, my husband agreed to a sewing machine years ago that i have HATED. a dozen or so years--with me restraining myself from throwing that sewing machine out the window--i finally went on a mission to find a fabulous sewing machine at a fabulous price. so, like any other major purchase, i researched. (and bugged my hubby until he caved in)
this lovely machine is the machine that kept coming up at the top of any "best rated sewing machine" list i would look at. i have to admit, although i knew Brother had a good name, my oh so hated machine was a brother. so, i wasn't interested. after about a month of faithful researching, i realized that like it or not, this machine must be good. so, i found the best deal (yay me) and took the plunge. i now LOVE brother. this machine is easy to use, runs so smoothly, there was hardly any tweeking time, it's great for a beginner as well as an old pro. i have the ability to advance from my simple straight stitching to any number of detailed stitches. i can take up quilting! (if and when i have time)
i love my machine! i highly recommend this for anyone who may have doubted brother in the past. if you have that cheap machine purchased from that one supercenter i probably can't mention, please don't judge all of the brother machines on that. try this. it's wonderful!
and by the way, read the owners manual. it's an easy read, full of wonderful info that puts it out there for you in terms you can understand. it is so extremely helpful.
