Customer Review: Good machine for the price.

I purchased this machine as a temporary replacement when I broke my Bernina sewing machine. We did not have the funds to spend $500 comparably repairing or replacing the Bernina, so I researched cheaper machines to figure out what to purchase. This machine sews smoothly and has many nice features of more expensive machines that I was looking for; needle stop up/down, stitch selections, walking foot, no problems with tension, it even has a needle threader that I did not know I would appreciate. I needed a machine to last me a few years until I could save up for a nicer machine, and so far this one has performed as needed without driving me crazy. Some cheap sewing machines have chronic tension issues that can drive a sewer insane, and this one has had no problems. My only real complaint so far is that the presser foot up position is not as generous as I would like. It can be hard to get bulk under there and I sew clothing for my kids, so the seams can be difficult to get through there. I would recommend this machine as a good starting machine or take with you to sewing group as it is lightweight and easier to move than heavier machines. Since it is lightweight, it does not feel as sturdy as my old Bernina, but it is a good in-between and I am happy with my purchase.Customer Review: Has good stitches but 10 or 25 stitches ones enoungh for you

Once I had 10 stitches brother machine.
I liked that so much and I wanted to do something more difficult and sophisticated.
so I purchased this and I'm not happy with this machine.
I read the instruction 3 times and started sewing.
problem 1. week needles
This one has thread-tension controller 0 to 9
I set thread thesion 2 1/2 or 3 ...
I think needles are not strong enough ,eventually I broke A.L.L my needles
and now I set the tension only between 0 to 1 (maximum)
( I went to Ja-Ann and replaced needles, I guess these needle are stronger.
They stand even tension higher than 6 or 7 )
what kind occasion can we use like tension over than 4?
cause those needles which come with this machine can't even stand tension 3..
Problem 2. thread or depth of fabrics
This machine like neither cheap threads nor thin fabrics such as silk.
and thread from the bobbin gets mess up with your projects quite often.
I know how to handle bobbin enough but I read instruction throughly many times.
Now I'm using it with no complaints because I gave up some parts of problems.
If things happen again . now I go like this " whatever!!"

I have been sewing since grade school and my first machine was a very basic Singer that finally bit the dust this spring when I got really into sewing again and began sewing several times a week. The Singer was fixable but I decided to upgrade and am I glad I did! Sewing with the Brother is like a whole new world! After studying the book I was able to pick right up and begin trying the many different stitch functions, feet, and features.
I prefer to sew with a pedal, but the option for the start and stop button is nice. I also prefer to thread my own needle but I couldn't believe there was actually a gadget that could thread it for you. I have sewn several purses and several garments since purchasing and I love this machine. The stitches are even and beautiful, the grid on the foot plate makes measuring easy, I LOVE the drop in bobbin, and the digital stitch adjustment is great. One thing I do need to get used to is the additional stitch it takes when you take your foot off the pedal, both forwards and in reverse.
Best thing about this machine was the price! I couldn't believe it was not much more than I paid for the basic old Singer a decade ago. So far so good with this machine and I look forward to many great projects with it.

I purchased this over a month ago. I was immediately enamored by the computerized stitch selector that sets a recommended default stitch length and width (when applicable); the display also tells you which foot to use and those are conveniently labeled with letter values - like crochet hooks. I have used the machine to make a quilt (heavy work), do mending, sew chiffon dance skirts (very flimsy material) and clothing which includes decorative stitching. It does a great job! There were a couple of instances where there were thread bunching problems but they were "user-errors" as either I did not see I had not set the top or bobbin threading correctly. I also had the machine error on me when I had a particularly problematic material that "shed" little fibers in the bottom - simply cleaning the machine regularly while sewing with this material did the trick. One of the features I also really like is the needle threader (so easy to use) as well as what they call automatic bobbin winder/threader - it really is an "assisted" method by lining up the thread in little groves that make is so easy to accomplish the tasks. Oh, I almost forgot to mention you can use this with or without a pedal - I love that too. This machine makes it fun to sew!Customer Review: Sooo Great!!

I did a lot of research before buying a new replacement for my beloved Janome. I read a lot of reviews on this machine and could not find a better deal for the features and extras. My dream machine would be a bernina and I thought I would have to wait years and years before I could get a sewing machine even close to it. But I did not wait long at all!!! This little machine is so easy to use I'm teaching my 5 and 6 year old girls how to quilt on it!! They love pushing the buttons for different stitches and they love that they don't have to stretch to reach a foot petal!! I really think they have practiced enough now on it to start piecing their very own quilt! We are so excited! This is a great machine. Like others have stated, the light on it is regretably not nearly bright enough. But most people have lamps in the sewing room anyway. It also takes a different bobbin than what I have, but they are cheap so it's not a big deal. I have had this machine for 2 or 3 days now and so far so good!! It also came rather quickly!! I ordered it monday morning and it was here after lunch on tuesday!! Plus, FREE shipping!! Anyway, I think this is a great machine for beginners or intermediate sewers/quilters. And Amazon has it for the best price!!
