Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brother 5300 Universal Sewing Machine Carrying CaseCustomer Review: Nice Case! Summary: 4 Stars
The case is somewhat bulky but there isn't any way around that when you are trying to accomodate several types of machines. I ordered a Brother SE-400 machine and was looking for a case to put it in to protect it from the curious fingers of my toddler. I ordered this case thinking it was universal to all Brother machines, at least so that it would be safe. Then, I was just browsing though the reviews and saw all of the complaints about how big, bulky and ugly the case is and one where the dimensions were mentioned. My SE-400 is a bit larger than other portable machines because of the embroidery base. I confess, I didn't think to compare dimensions when I ordered it. I've spent the past few days wondering if I would need to return the case because the machine dimensions were larger than what the dimensions for the case are stated to be. When my machine and case both arrived today, the first thing I did was take my machine, all the accessories and try to put them into my case. Thankfully the 4x4 embroidery base is removable and the machine, accessories, embroidery base, foot pedal and manuals all fit in very well! I was very impressed. The case, admittedly, looks like a cat carrier but I might let my toddler loose with some markers for a 'one-of-a-kind' look, or I might decorate it myself. The case is largely a rectangle so will store in a corner, closet or nook fairly well, and can take some light weight on top of it without damaging structure. I'd have given this 5 stars if there were a way to secure the machine inside, so as not to shift while moving the case. However, some gorilla glue or super glue and a few dog collars (or other adjustable straps with clips or fasteners on the end) and you can customize the case any way that you want. I like the idea of being able to place the straps/machine where they work best for me. All in all, a great, basic cover. Good price, too. I think I will spruce the case up somewhat and add in those straps, but otherwise, I'm really happy with it!
Customer Review: Too big for the machine (without styrafoam packaging), difficult to close. Summary: 3 Stars
It seems that to have the machine fit snugly in this case, you should keep the original packaging materials. This may have been communicated somewhere, but I missed it. I believe this case will fit perfectly over the machine packed in its styrafoam surround. I am going to up the product rating from a 2 to a 3 because the case will do its job to keep the machine safe IF you have that packing material. It would be very safe to ship the machine in that configuration. I, however, tossed the machine's packaging the day before as the machine arrived before the case. Unless you pack some fabric or other material in the case, the machine is going to slip and slide around. Luckily, I had some extra fabric to stuff around the sides, but still felt I had to be extra careful moving the case. I also find the case difficult to snap together. Again, it seems to me that original styrafoam packaging would "push" the sides of the top out to fit perfectly with the bottom. Since I don't have that, I have to play with it a bit. I love the machine, but not the case. If I actually use it a lot, I will likely replace the case.
Customer Review: It fits and then some Summary: 4 Stars
I got this case for my Brother CP7500 sewing machine with extension table and hard cover. This case is large enough to hold everything with a bit of room to spare. Granted I had to wedge the table in between the base of the machine and the case, but it works ok.
I was a bit concerned when I got this because I heard some rattling around inside the box. Once I opened, I saw a rectangular piece of plastic and 2 press on washers. It didn't take long to figure out where they go. The plastic is a cover that hides the place where the latch goes through the bottom part of the case. I just slipped it back in and was good to go. Next the washers. The only place where the could go is on the plastic nubs where the handle goes through the top. Pushed them on and voila... all done. I don't know how these got loose inside the box... but wanted to share in case this happens to you.
This case is light but seems pretty sturdy. A-OK for the price I think.
Customer Review: it is just So-So for your Sew-Sewing needs. Summary: 2 Stars
The Case is a big cheap plastic case that will fit almost any size sewing machine because it is NOT unique to any brand. I do not know why they even call it a Brother case.
I bought it for my Brother 2600i since it does not come with one. The 2600i rattles around in there...I have to put old fabric in there to position and cushion it. The sewing machine still floats to one side making it awkward to carry since it is side heavy.
Overall- it is a Hard Case to store your sewing machine. The inside plastic Cards that are suppose to cover the latch rivets fall out and are useless.
I have not seen anything better on Amazon so I am keeping it... but it is nothing t get excited about.
If Brother actually came out with a custom case that held my sewing machine - like the SC6000 does (which comes with it fro free) I would leave this case in a minute. I should have just bought that sewing machine for that reason alone!
Customer Review: Damaged x2 Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this along with a Brother CS1600 sewing machine for my mother for Christmas.
When she opened the box the carrying case came in she discovered the plastic on the bottom portion of the case was cracked, leaving the case useless. The box showed no signs of damage so I do not believe it was damaged during delivery. We promtly contacted Amazon to return the damaged item and have a new one sent out. Due to issues with obtaining and printing the shipping label, Amazon allowed us to dispose of the damaged case and they sent out a new one.
We received the new on and the top portion of the case had a small crack and the metal screws holding the handle in were very rusty.
Luckily we hadn't thrown away the first damaged case. We put the undamaged bottom and undamaged cover together so she had a decent case. She is now very happy with her carrying case. The sewing machine doesn't fit snugly inside of the case but that doesn't seem to be an issue for her.
