Customer Review: Plenty of extra room for supplies and unfinished projects

I recently purchased this carrier to accompany my daughter's Brother LS2125I 10-Stitch Free-Arm Sewing Machine. That is a large machine, as sewing machines go. This carrier easily holds it, plus the cords and foot pedal, plus a project book, a couple yards of fabric, and a few small tools such as your pincushion, seam rippers, thread snips and/or shears. This is great if you take the case to class with you, or if you want to store your current project with your sewing machine. For us, it functions like a little self contained sewing center. Want to sew? Everything is in one spot. Need to reclaim your desk or table? Everything goes back in the case. Works very well for that type of in-between-sessions storage.
This is not so good, however, if you are looking for something very compact, or if you want your machine to fit snugly in the case, to prevent knocking about. The case itself is lightweight and sturdy, but once packed full, can be quite heavy. It also easily takes up twice as much room as a large sewing machine. If all you need is sturdy storage for your sewing machine, you can get by with a much smaller case. This particular case measures 12x14x18 inches. My Brother 10-Stitch measures 6x13x15 inches (with the thread spool in the retracted position,) which means that the case more than doubles the volume needed for storing my machine.
All in all, I was pleased with the purchase, since my main objective was to keep things clean, together and undamaged in between sewing sessions on the dining room table. It does that quite well. However if I was going to travel with my machine, I would recommend 1) a smaller case and a lightweight machine, and 2) carrying your other supplies in a separate totebag, so you don't have a big 25 pound package to lug around.
Lastly, shop around for price. I was disappointed when the price on this case dropped by five dollars the week after I purchased it. I paid $30, and it was worth it for us to have it here for Christmas, but $25 or $20 (which is the cost of a generic case at a bigbox store) would have been better. Why pay more than you have to?
