Customer Review: Nice pitcher... but plastic can't withstand much of a fall

I enjoy it a lot, the water is really tasty and fresh. I mainly use it for making tea and coffee. My cat even gets the benefit of it.
I've had this for almost 2 full months... it's now on last indicator bar. I have two 2 quart plastic jugs I keep water in, so that I don't have to wait for pitcher to finish it's filtering process.
Today however, I went to get full pitcher out of fridge and it slipped from shelf. It fell over 3 feet (40") to the linoleum floor. The top popped off and half the water went everywhere. There is a large crack around the side and front where impact was strongest. Obviously this product wasn't made to be dropped. I'm ordering another however, but this time I will be particularly careful with it.
***It it weren't for the cheap plastic i would give it a 5-star.

I compared all the Britas and liked the streamlined design for my modern kitchen. It is also well balanced to fill and pour, and fits nicely in the fridge. But I think the "cool" shape helped in my real reason for getting it - to get my young teen daughter to drink more water! This seems more acceptable to her than just from the tap! (...even tho my city won the statewide blind test of water taste last year!)
I do have to remember to rinse the carbon dots from the well occasionally, but that's just an aesthetic issue for the fill-er (usually me, of course!)
I got the three extra filters along with to save money and having to think, later. I expect I will use them double the time because again, our water is actually pretty good! (Many cities are moving away from chlorine treatment and on to ozone.)

I live in San Diego CA. As you may or may not be aware of, we receive the last remnants of the Colorado River after it has run its course through LA and surrounding areas. According to several reports, OC has the best water quality system in California, followed by Los Angeles. Guess where San Diego is? Near the bottom!
Angered and and wanting to save the environment (stop drinking water bottles), this prompted me to by the Brita Aqualaux system. I can't begin to describe the immediate impact on the taste and quality of the water and when I brew my tea! I can't believe I waited so long to purchase this. I'm shocked by the people who have broken lids and filter malfunctions. I haven't experienced anything of the sort. I've treated it well and I have no complaints. Highly Recommended.

If you've ever tried to brew great teas or coffee from tap water, you know why you need some kind of water filter.I chose the Brita Aqualux due to design and good reviews, though with reservations regarding some mentions of the lid popping off. Only been using it a week, but so far, this certainly has not been an issue. Just have to be mindful about securing the lid, gently pushing it down. I like the cushioned handle, easy for me to pour. Water tastes great. Filling it is a bit awkward--the directions say to avoid pouring water directly onto the filter, but good luck with that. Filtering seems to take longer than I expected(fill top basin, wait, drip, drip, look out the window, fill again, wait, drip drip...), but overall, I'm pleased with it so far.Customer Review: Looks Okay

The Brita 42558 Aqualux Water Pitcher is nicely designed to fit in the top shelf of my refrigerator. Only a rectangular shape would have utilized space more effectively. Replacement filters are readily available whenever needed - as reported by a little window on the lid of the pitcher.
I carefully followed the instructions for start-up.
I guess it does what the manufacturer claims, and maybe it is beneficial for gaining the best health. But who really knows anything these days? Well. . . we do know that everyone works for profit. People do as little as necessary and try to profit as much as possible. An old black friend of mine once told me: "Yuz pays you money and yuz takes ur chances."
