Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brita 42558 Aqualux Water PitcherCustomer Review: Perfect, Just Make Sure To Follow Instructions Summary: 5 Stars
I was somewhat hesitant to purchase this Brita pitcher after reading some of the one and two star reviews. I find sometimes the lower rated reviews are even more helpful than the higher rated ones. As such, I knew what I needed to look out for. I've owned a Brita before, so I know how it works, however, I chose to follow the instructions and hopefully avoid a bad experience. First thing, the filter is packaged wet, so I can see if someone did not soak it long enough and rinse it, maybe there would be a foul taste to the water. Second, I ran the water through the filter for a couple of pitchers before drinking. One thing I noticed is that I did not place the filter in tight enough during assembly. That did result in charcoal in my drinkable water. After double checking everything and following the instructions to the letter, I honestly cannot see how some folks have rated this product one, two or even three stars. This Brita pitcher is great. Water tastes perfect and fresh and the pitcher holds up to frequent use. I highly recommend this product to everyone. One feature that this pitcher also has is a timer of sorts that lets you know when to replace the filter. It is that dark patch on the top of the lid with an LED bar system that is quite useful as opposed to the old refrigerator magnet sticker system. I am sorry that some folks have had bad experiences with this product, I just honestly don't see how.
Customer Review: Brita 42558 5 cup Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this Brita water pitcher last month and I am happy with it. For a one or two person household it is fine, if you get in the habit of immediately refilling the tank with water to be filtered. I use the water where it will only be ingested into my body. A faucet application is another approach, that way you don't have to remember to fill the pitcher, but if you don't switch the device off, for water you don't need filtered (washing dishes for example) then it's a waste of filters and Brita is in the filter bussines just like companys that make printers are in the ink cardridge bussiness. If we only used what we needed and paid for what we use; think what that could do for our budget. So far it's eliminated having to make a trip to the water station and poke quarters into a machine for water I am not sure of anyway. My father used to tell me (50 years ago) that no one will believe there is a water shortage, until they turn the faucet on and nothing comes out and they still won't; not until their tongue is dried out, cracked, swollen and bleeding and they can't swallow. Sorry, I suffer from A.D.D. I'll get off my soap box now.
Customer Review: A Must-Have for every home! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't typically write reviews, especially for something as mundane as a water filter, but I love my Brita pitcher so much, that it's worth writing one.
I bought mine last fall on a whim, right after I moved into my first apartment. At my parents and in the dorms I always just drank bottled water, but I try to be environmentally friendly, and I was also constantly running out of water. It was definitely the best impulse buy I've ever made.
First of all, the water is delicious. I'm a bit picky when it comes to my water, and I absolutely love the taste of this. Second, it's affordable. As long as you're careful, you're not going to break the pitcher, and the filters only have to be changed every other month. If you buy them in multi-packs, you'll save a lot of money, and trips to the store.
I bought a nifty metal water bottle, and I make sure to refill it with fresh, cold water throughout the day. Not only is my health benefitting, but I don't have a ton of empty plastic bottles lying around. I can not recommend Brita products enough. Absolutely worth the investment.
Customer Review: Not sure what all the complaints are about Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this pitcher for about a week now and it's fine. I see a lot of people complaining about the lid and spilling, but I couldn't duplicate those problems even if I tried.
The pitcher comes with 1 filter - make sure you read the directions before using (soak the filter in water for 15 minutes, clean, etc). Very simple setup, but important in order for your filter to work properly.
Not a huge capacity pitcher, but I mostly use the water to fill my Saeco espresso machine so the size is perfect. I can definitely taste a difference in the water- the espresso tastes better (perhaps that's just my imagination?), but on its own I prefer the taste of good old Chicago tap water to the Brita water, but they're both good.
Overall a good value if you're looking for a water pitcher. I did my research and this model rated highest with Consumer reports - if you're debating between Britas buy the Aqualux over the cheaper models - this removes more of the harmful chemicals than the other.
Customer Review: Great tasting water, improved design compared to previous models Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using Brita water pitchers for a few years and I am a big fan of it. The taste of the water is very nice. It eliminates the need to buy dozens of bottled water every month and it helps the environment because it reduces the waste made from the plastic bottles. The previous pitcher that I have been using was poorly designed, but this pitcher is very much improved from the older ones. It's silm shape fits better in the fridge and the lid doesn't fall off when you pour, which happend quite frequently with the older model. The smaller lid is my favorite feature of this pitcher which makes filling it so easy. The electric timer is a TIMER, not a SENSOR. You reset the timer when you change the filter and the timer will count down 2 months, which is the usual lifespan of the filter.
Over all, a very nice water filtering pitcher. If you're sick of the plastic water bottles I would definitely recomend this product. Plus helps keep the environment clean!
