Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brita 42364 SpaceSaver PitcherCustomer Review: Avoid this model COMPLETELY! Summary: 1 StarsVery bad design of the lid fit. It's true what the other detractors report. The lid will actually warp over time and will 'rocker' back and forth from front to back and never seal properly. This will cause the lid to fall off while attempting a pour unless you hold the lid in place with your free hand. Don't attempt a pour with water in the upper resevoir as it will also pour out due to the improper lid fit. The rear of the upper resevoir is 'notched' so if too much water is added to the resevoir it will begin leaking into the handle which is hollow. The color strip on the handle is only a snap on piece of plastic. Any water which overflows into the handle will leak out rather soon all over your counter or where ever you've happened to set the pitcher. I don't see how Brita could have possibly tested this pitcher design before its release. I did complain to Brita and they did send me a new unit which is identical in deficientcy as the first unit. I am totally underwhelmed.
Customer Review: They could have designed the lid much better Summary: 2 StarsI have mixed feelings on this pitcher. Briefly, here is what I have to say about it:
Pro:
* Good, clean filtered water with no chlorine smell or taste.
* Good size and shape. It fits very well in my small apartment sized refrigerator.
* It has a handy manual date reminder built into the lid.
Con:
* The people complaining about the loose lid are correct. It will not stay on except when sitting still in the refrigerator. You might as well just remove the lid when filling the pitcher because the lid will fall off if you try to fill it through the hole designed for filling the pitcher. The lid will fall off if you try to pour from the pitcher without securing the lid with the thumb of your pouring hand or with your other hand.
* The spout could be designed better. For the first two months that I owned the pitcher it would pour most of the water into the glass, but some would always run down the pitcher and drip off the bottom. However, during the next four months I have had almost no drippage. I must have unconsciously figured out how to pour without dripping.
Conclusion:
* Do not buy this if you have children that will be using it. The lid will seem to spend more time on the table or floor or sink or whatever than it will spend on top of the pitcher.
* Do not buy this if you are easily frustrated. You will have issues with the lid and with the pour spout.
* Maybe buy this pitcher if neither of the above is an issue and you have a smaller refrigerator or if you really want or need a specific feature on this pitcher.
It is now a couple of weeks later and I have to change this review a little. Since I wrote the review I have purchased another model of the Brita pitcher. There is no comparison. The lid snaps into place. The spout pours driplessly. I lowered my rating of the space saver model from three stars to two stars. I couldn't lower it to one star because of the only two features that I liked, the size and the date reminder. So I recommend against buying this pitcher unless you absolutely have to have those two features.
Customer Review: Good filtration, but pitcher could use a few improvements. Summary: 3 StarsPros:
1. Water tastes great!
Cons:
1. Lid cannot be secured, makes a very poor seal, and, needless to say, frequently falls off when pouring (don't even try to pour the filtered water while there is still unfiltered water in the top: you will make a watery MESS). Thus, it is a two hand operation, which I think is unnecessary.
2. If you pour when the pitcher is more than half full, then your filtered water goes upwards through the filter spewing out as it goes the filter's sand-like carbon bits into the top portion of the pitcher. I guess this doesn't hurt anything, but it does seem to me like a careless design for a filter costing roughly $9. Do we really have to see the entrails of the filter? I think not.
It seems to me that these filtration pitchers are such a no-brainer concept, so I am baffled as to why the problems I mentioned above even exist.
Hope this helps!
Customer Review: water filter Summary: 3 StarsConsidering the reputation that Brita Products have I wasn't thrilled. I wanted to have water available without using bottled water... (thinking about going green).
This worked well but the lid of the container keeps failing off when in use.
Would think twice about buying it again. Size is frig friendly.
Customer Review: Basic water filter Summary: 3 StarsIt remains to be seen as to the quality of the filtered water. The pitcher top could be made more secure since it easily pops off.
