We love our water from these filters. It makes a noticeable difference in everything we drink and cook with. From iced tea, coffee to just using it in oatmeal, the fresh water can make a huge difference.
I only wish it would eliminate chlorine from our tap water. Even if you follow pre-soaking instructions, we still get a lot of charcoal bits in the top of the pitcher. Not quite sure how to make that stop.
Overall, great water at a great price (even beat WalMart on this one)!
Customer Review: What's with the Black Particles???

The water certainly tastes great and you can find these just about anywhere. Also, they are easy to change and the pitchers are well-designed. But, what's with the black particles? (Either carbon or coal?) They are frequently in the draining basin, but if you attempt to pour water while this basin still has any amount of water in it, you can get these in your glass. I don't understand why this is so difficult to fix but it doesn't seem from other reviews that Brita is too interested in doing so.

So it has been a little over 2 months since I bought the Brita 3-pack filters. I read a lot of reviews to make sure this is the real deal. Within the first week of use, I noticed little black particles in the filter. I've read that this may happen at the beginning, so I thought okay, let it be. It never went away. What is worse is that now, the water tastes really bad! It did taste good at first, but now it is just horrible. My roommate started buying bottled water instead. Softens my hard water and makes tap water tasty. Be sure to soak filter prior for half a day prior to using. Keep enough water in the Brita container to keep at least part of the filter WET at all times. If you do these 2 things the filter works amazingly well. I use the filtered water for cooking and brewing tea and coffee (just like Starbucks does). I won't go back to plain tap water ever again! 3 filters seems to last about 3 months. These work very well, taken with the understanding that these casual types of filters are mostly designed to make water taste good. If you want more serious filtering, you have to go reverse osmosis or some other robust product.
I've used a fair number of them, and I enjoy the taste of the water when they get done filtering it.
Since most people feel water is one of the healthiest things to consume, this is a valuable product to encourage a water habit.
