Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brita 35503 Pitcher Replacement Water Filter Cartridges, 3-Pack

Customer Review: Leaks carbon dust into the water
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been using Brita filters for years, until recently I got sick and got really picky about my foods and water. That's when I noticed a small amount of carbon dust floating in the bottom of my coffee cup before I added my tea bag. So I decided to run the water through a coffee filter to test how much carbon was being leaked into my drinking water. I was shocked. Loads of black specks lined the bottom of the coffee filter. It's hard to see in a glass or cup, but straining the water through a white coffee filter showed how much carbon I was ingesting. I have tried soaking, rinsing, double filtering, etc... doesn't seem to matter.I don't recommend Brita filters at all. I switched to bottled water until I could find a replacement (takes a look of research...if you want to do it right).

Customer Review: Material from filter gets into the filtered water
Summary: 1 Stars

I agree with the previous reviewer who noted that "carbon" or charcoal or whatever is used inside the filter ends up in the filtered water. I am not sure if this is harmful but it is certainly not appealing. You can prove this without the coffee-filter test by wiping the bottom of the pitcher with a white paper towel after filtering several pitchers of water. You'll notice the black sediment on the paper towel. In addition to the dust, often times small black "pellets" will either get around the sides of the filter of pass through the filter into the pitcher. These come from inside the filter and there are many of them in the refill tank on the top. All in all, I do not recommend this filter unless the black sediment is an improvement on your unfiltered water.

Customer Review: inexpensive, environmentally-friendly, delicious water
Summary: 5 Stars

Ahhhh... the Brita filters. They're like magic. You put in your tap water with a bad after taste, and it comes out tasting like water should... like nothing!

They don't filter everything; they don't purify (kill bacteria), but they sure do make the water taste good and take out much of the harmful additives.

Also, they are cheap compared to buying water and don't cause nearly as much waste as bottled water. They also save energy because they do not use massive amounts of fuel (truck or human!) for hauling.

Besides, you know most bottled waters are from the ta anyway, don't you?

The three-pack is a discounted version of the single-pack, without the price commitment of hte larger packs.

Customer Review: No problem with these filters; better price than in other stores
Summary: 5 Stars

Of course if Amazon goes up on the price or takes away the free shipping it wouldn't be worth buying them here, just get them in your local store. I was a little worried that if I paid less for the filters that they would some how be faulty or defective but that wasn't the case. I've used one of the three and it works just as well as the others I have purchased in Walmart or Target. Change it at least every two months or more if you go through pitchers of water. My Brita pitcher has an indicator on it that helps me know when to change it but after awhile you can taste the difference and know that it's time to change filters. The filters I bought through Amazon seem to be lasting just as long as the others did. No complaints. :-)
