I've tried these filters for over 8 months now... and no matter what I do (and I've followed the flushing catridge instructions religiously) I keep getting black particles in my water! The water itself tastes fine...but I don't want to ingest carbon particles or whatever else they're using in the filter. Looks like I'll be trying the Pur pitchers and filters for now. Since this was the only item in my order, Amazon shipped it in one of those padded envelopes. When I got it, there was a 1-1/2" tear on the center of the envelope and the box was deformed.
The filters themselves are okay. The black carbon bits still leak out sometimes but not enough to be bothersome. I don't know how this compares to PUR, but works well with me and I trust this brand.

I have been using these for a long time, they make nice clean water.
I have tested these to see if they take out the terrible chlorine taste from my water.
And it does indeed. My animals do not like to drink from the tap but they will drink the water that comes from the Brita. I make quarts daily and use this water for everything,including my coffee and tea. there is a difference.

The carbon particles which come off the filter is a little bothersome. However, it probably does not hurt anything, since it is carbon and I have not noticed it in the finished product, only in the top part of pitcher before it is filtered. It is a little annoying though. I would give it 5 stars, if not for that. It does make the water taste a lot better after the filtration.Customer Review: Good, but needs improving

My taste buds tell me that these filters are working.
However, the little black charcoal particles that float into the top reservoir are annoying. The manual tells you to ignore these, but I would prefer it if Brita would just fix the product. Also, the filters do not always make a good seal in the pitcher, so unfiltered water can drip into the bottom reservoir.
