Customer Review: A Nice Try, Breville.

I bought a Breville rice cooker some years ago and loved it - it was so much better than cooking rice on the stove top. I liked it so much I bought one for a friend. However, I broke the glass lid of my cooker and, when I tried to buy a replacement lid from Breville, I was told that they were no longer available. So, although the cooker itself still worked, I had to throw it out and buy a new one. So, about 18 months ago I bought another Breville rice cooker. I don't think it was this model but it was similar. This time the cord got cooked in the toastie-maker. When I tried to buy a replacement cord (they are detachable) - guess what I was told by Breville? Those cords are no longer available. So I won't be buying a Breville rice cooker this time, I'm going for a different brand. However, one thing I will say in favour of the Brevilles relates to a comment in the other review - the reviewer mentions the loose lid. I have noticed, from reading the reviews of other brands of rice cookers, that people often mention them boiling over or sputtering. The 2 Brevilles I have had never did that. Not once. The sturdy, stainless steel appearance of this model hides some design flaws. Foremost, the glass lid is ill-fitting on the base pot, providing lots of leeway for steam to escape during cooking. Secondly, the bell mechanism is, frankly, an overrated feature here. The sound produced is far too quiet for it to be practical in a busy kitchen. Despite these two shortcomings, the two stainless steel steaming baskets are very useful, and the Breville RC19XL succeeds best in its most important task: cooking rice to perfection. Overall, a not-too-pricey cost for a modern design and general practicality.Customer Review: Replacement Parts

I bought the rice cooker and love it. It does exactly what it promised,it's so easy to use,and for the price, you can't beat the performance of this rice cooker versus cooking on the stove top! I am thinking about buying one for my mom for Christmas.
Ironically, I had a similar problem with the lid, but had not problems reordering a replacement part. I called their 1 800 number and got the lid in about two weeks or so.

This cooker cooks rice but has a tendency to slightly burn the rice. If you cook partly milled or brown rice you will have to adjust the amount of water added. All these "features" I can deal with, but the warm and hold part is not good. If you try and keep the rice warm, it will burn after a short time. I have seen other rice cookers that will hold the rice warm for several hours without burning.Customer Review: Great rice cooker

Great rice cooker i have used this item several times to cook rice and it has done a wonderful job every time i just love the non stick pot. have not used the steamer part of it can not say anything about that but as far as cooking rice it looks good on the counter and does a great job
