Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Breville EW30XL Electric Gourmet Wok

Customer Review: I love my new electric wok
Summary: 5 Stars

This wok is now the best tool in my kitchen. We use it twice a week and it makes great stir fries, soups, stews, and also is fantastic at making fried food such as chicken, shrimp, egg rolls, donuts, etc. It cleans up in two minutes no matter how yucky it gets during cooking and is so well built and sturdy. The top and bottom easily separate and all can be washed by hand or in dishwasher except for the plug in thermostat. The non-stick finish makes cooking and cleanup a pleasure. It is great fun to do a stir fry with company as each person can have their own version - chicken or shrimp or beef and choose their own veggies, as it only takes about 3-5 mins to cook a large portion. It is a bit expensive but totally worth the money - you truly do "get what you pay for"

Customer Review: Kung Fu It's Good
Summary: 5 Stars

This wok is spectacular and functional...after a few seasonings, as is always a good idea before cooking with it, we got rolling on a few recipes...I've made chicken, veggies, beef, and sauces in this thing and it's very easy to take off the base, wipe down and put away (after I season it again after each use). The temperature dial is easy to use, as the wok is nicely, accurately responsive to the adjustments I make thorough out a meal. Comes with see through vented lid which is handy. The price is right and I think, if taken care of (as I season it, use only plastic or wooden tools) it will last me years. If you are using metal on it you're going to ruin it. And if you don't periodically season it, of course things are going to stick. Know your oils people.

Customer Review: This is the way it should be...
Summary: 5 Stars

When I was using a stove top wok my chinese food would be more like stew than stir fry because I couldn't get the wok hot enough. This unit gets nice and hot. I've owned the Breville for about 2 months now and love it. My decision was between this unit and the Cuisinart electric. I chose the Breville because I didn't need such a large wok, the glass top seems to be more practical, and the Breville just looks great. Purchased mine at Dillards for $70 after comparing the two. I now use this appliance more than any other I've owned.

My only concern is that the non stick surface seems to scratch easily. I've only ever used nylon spatulas. The scratches are probably just natural wear and doesn't seem to affect the non-stick capabiities.

Customer Review: Electric Wok
Summary: 5 Stars

I, like so many, love Chinese stir fry. I've tried for years to cook it at home and have it come out tasting like what I got a restaurants. I gave up realizing that even with a gas stove I wasn't going to reach the heat needed to do a good job of it. Then I came across some reviews of electric woks and this one seemed to stand out as one the people really liked. Wow, I'm so glad I got this. My wife and I have been eating stir fry about 4 or 5 times a week for dinner since we got it. I actually made some shrimp and snow peas the other day that I thought was the single best serving of stir fry I'd ever eaten (restaurants included). I love everything about the wok and hope it can stand up to the heavy uses its getting.

Customer Review: Breville Electric Wok - If you don't have gas this is your wok.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very happy with my purchase. I have an electric smooth top range so this was my best wok option. I've made both stir fry meats and vegetables as well as fried rice and the results have been so pleasing that we haven't bought Chinese take-out since.
I place it right on the cook top so that its under the range hood vent-fan. Perfect. (Just make sure the cook top is off & cool before placing the wok on it.) Easy to clean and I haven't had any difficulty removing/re-attaching the base. Note: During cooking you have to move the food around with your utensil - don't expect to be able to shake the pan around. It sits pretty firmly on its base. I do lift it up and tilt it to pour the contents into my serving pan.
