This toaster does not mess around. It does get extremely hot, so move it away from underneath cupboards when in use and unplug when done. Not for small children. The edges on either end are cool to the touch so it's easy to move. But don't stand over it or touch the top or you will get burned. Settings are extreme. 2 is about the most I can stand. 4 will definitely scorch your bread. Any higher could pose a fire hazard. This is not a wimpy piece of machinery. I like the lift and look feature and the sliding bottom comes out easy for cleaning. Just use caution with it and you should be ok.Customer Review: don't buy it, save yourself the trouble

Why are toasters so difficult? Anyway, this one I thought would be a slam dunk, looks good, Breville makes others products that work great, like their juicer is one of the best but this toaster....What a disappointment!!!! Primary criticism is that it doesn't toast evenly. Shouldn't this be a primary function of a toaster? thought I was buying a top-of-the-line one. I should have returned it but I didn't...now one of the slots doesn't rise all the way. I'll try taking back to Williams-Sonoma, but it's been a while, so I'm probably out of luck. Shopped around quite a bit. Had a Cuisinart for years but always had little annoyance problems with it. Decided to go by ratings first, looks second. Ratings were great on this one. This is a nice sleek looking alternative to the big knobs and curved edges on most of the latest retro toasters. Toasts perfectly - nice big slots. Would recommend a pair of bamboo tongs because the bread doesn't POP out so you can grab it with your fingers. Overall, very happy with it so far. Just realize it is pretty large - kind of like a basic small toaster on steriods.Customer Review: Met Expectations

Before purchasing, I read a lot of reviews. One consistent opinion that seemed to come up often was that it was extremely hot and burned toast at No.4 setting which is mfg. rec. I didn't find that true. I have toasted bread at No.4. and muffins at No.7 and never burned either.
It is sleek and modern looking. I like the peek option and the front sensor which lets you check progress. The the ring at the finish is helpful and saves running to check when toast is finished. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good four slice toaster.

This toaster is true excellent. It's wide slots accommodate four slices (or bagel-halves)easily. The extra features really are useful: lift lever to check progress of the toasting cycle, a bagel function, a defrost mode, and a reheat mode. The digital dislay and stainless steel finish make it perfect for any modern kitchen. We had read some negative reviews about the darkness settings but we have not had any troubles. The number "3" setting seems to be perfect for us, not too dark and not to light. Don't hesitate to buy this toaster.
