Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single-Cup Coffee BrewerCustomer Review: I really wanted this to be the one...no such luck! Summary: 1 Stars
I really wanted this machine. I did a lot of research on single coffee makers and felt this one was it! First of all it is a lot of money but somethings are worth it, this is not. It looks great if you like weak coffee. I followed the instructions for set up and brewing as outlined. We tried our first cup and were immediately disappointed. It was nothing more than colored water. We then proceeded to try several varieties of K-Cups. Yes, even the "bold" or "extra" types. Still no luck. I then moved on to using the smaller cup selection. Somewhat better but not what you want to wake up to. My last attempt was to use the My K-Cup and fresh grounds. Experimenting with several varieties and grinds I was not able to produce a decent cup of coffee. Cleaning the filter after each cup was a pain and to me it defeated the purpose of this machine. I also tried to make hot cocoa for my kids, again very weak. When I opened the K-Cup 2/3rds of the powder was remaining. So after 8 days of bad coffee back it went. On a final note it is virtually impossible to drain the machine. Why there is not option is beyond me. I can't imagine how you could pack it up to move.
Customer Review: Nice But Noisy Summary: 4 Stars
Having used this unit for several weeks now, I really enjoy the variety of blends available in K cups and I really like the options in cup size and auto on/off that the menu provides. The machine brews quickly, is easy to refill and maintain, and the menu features for the most part are easy to use. The coffee brews just right for my taste and my wife, who also enjoys the tea blends. I drink regular and she drinks decaf, so this machine allows us to each brew exactly what we want a cup at a time.
What I dislike about this machine is that the water pump is very noisy when it turns on before and after brewing every cup. Its loud enough to really get your attention in the morning and has an irritating vibration. Another improvement I'd like to see is an easier way to change brew cup size without scrolling through the menu options each time. I change brew size frequently enough that I would like to see an easier method for this option. Also, in shopping for the replacement charcoal filters, I find that they are overpriced at approx. $30 for six. These simple charcoal packets should be cheaper.
Customer Review: THIS ONE IS A KEEPER!!! Summary: 5 Stars
OK... I've tried them all. Started with a $2000+ Seaco Super Automatic. 2 of those broke on me within the first 6 months. On to a much cheaper Senseo. Made so-so-coffee, but nothing to write home about. With the Senseo I could never depend on a fool-proof cup. Sometimes it was too watery and not at all hot. Then I tried the more expensive Silver (look) Deluxe Senseo. Pay more, get a better product, right? NOT! Even worse than the cheap-o Senseo.
I spotted the Breville at Williams-Sonoma and was immediately drawn to its sleek good looks. It would look beautiful in my new (all stainless) kitchen. :-) But I really didn't want to get into a K-Cup situation because it reminded me too much of the dreaded PODS from the Senseo.
However, when I saw the Breville on eBay (New, Unopened Box) for $199.00 (a full $100 less than Retail stores!), I decided to take a leap of faith. WOW! Am I GLAD I did! Perfect coffee every time and super hot - just as I like it. I am one happy coffee-drinker! Don't hesitate to try out this little beauty. You'll be glad you did. :-)
Customer Review: Very nice Summary: 5 Stars
We have had this coffee maker for over a month now and have used it every day during that time. We are very pleased with the brewer overall and would recommend it to anyone considering a K-cup brewer.
Pros: filter for the water tank, nice stainless steel look, backlit water tank, adjustable brew temperatures, auto shut-off, different brew sizes (or coffee strengths).
Cons: a bit on the noisy side when heating or pumping the water to the heating element. You can cut down on some of the noise if you remove the drip catch basin thing, by doing that your empty coffee cup won't rattle when the brewer is starting up. After I am done brewing I just put the drip basin back (I use a tall travel mug so it works out better for me that way anyhow). pricey.
We have tried using our own grounds with the do it yourself reusable k-cup that comes with the brewer, it works well, but its so much nicer to pop in a fresh k-cup and clean up is a snap. We have even used a green tea bag and it has brewed green tea up nicely.
Customer Review: Love this machine Summary: 5 Stars
After searching numerous sites and reading countless reviews, I finally decided on this coffee maker. The price was $152.00 cheaper than Macy's plus there was no sales tax or shipping charges. From the moment I unpacked the coffee maker, I fell in love. It looks nice and I don't mind leaving it out on my countertop. As stated in other reviews, it is a little noisy for a few seconds. But it isn't anything I can't live with. There are many more choices available in the K-Cups than what is availale for other brew systems. I am not a coffee snob by any means but this makes some darn good coffee. The tea is pretty good but not as strong as if you had taken the time and brewed it yourself. That being said, you are buying this system for the conveinence of brewing only one cup and doing it quickly, which it does very well. In summation, I have had this maker for about 2 weeks and can't say anything bad about it. The set-up and upkeep is simple and I would highly recommend the Breville over any other system even other K-Cup brewers!!
