Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice ExtractorCustomer Review: The best juicer you can get to actually ENJOY juicing again! Summary: 5 Stars
First off, I'm ecstatic that the Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt "juice extractor" was one of the first juicers that came up when I searched for "powerful juicer, easy to clean". I read the reviews, looked at other juicers, but what really sold me was the video on Breville's website that showed this amazingly easy to clean 4 piece (3 if you insert a baggie into the pulp bin and then throw it out!) assembly. There are no parts to unscrew, you just pop in each part on top of the other making sure it's in place snugly. After juicing, you just rinse, brush the mesh-net with the included brush, and ta-da you're done. A lot of people have claimed pulp flies out of and around the bin, which is NOT TRUE because the top piece is designed to lock into the pulp bin, eliminating any air in between them. You just slide it under and lock into place, and nothing gets out. To get on with it...I have juiced beets (cut in half, because even though I'm sure this juicer can handle it, I want to be on the safe side) potatoes, and even kale (wrap it around a hard fruit like an apple) In other words, anything and everything goes. It makes lots and lots of tasty juice and is easy to operate. Even my boyfriend took up the juicer-cleaning role when we're done, it is that gratifying after you've had an amazing class of your own concoction. We have never had so many liquid veggies and we're lovin' it. Ginger, sunchokes, rutabaga..I am the first to admit I would not eat these unless they're in juice form. We got the juicer via 2-day shipping and it's been the best decision we've made. The money is well worth it (At William-Sonoma this juicer goes for $350+tax, and on the Breville website $299+tax+shipping) and we got it for $254 TOTAL on Amazon. So, in conclusion, this juicer is nice stainless-steel, fits on the counter and does NOT take up too much room, it is actually nicely designed to be somewhat compact. We've had it for about 2 weeks now and everything's fine.
My suggestion: Go for it! All other household juicers are just plain inferior.
Customer Review: Great first juicer Summary: 5 Stars
Never owned a juicer before. Purchased based on reviews across the web. WOW! Best orange juice ever!! So I have not used it to its full potential... no veggies yet. I basically make OJ, lemonade, and some strawberry and blueberry concoction I made up. I also can't compare this to any other juicer as it is my first one. However, it does exactly what it is supposed to do and works as described. Fruit (and veggies eventually) go in, juice comes out.
I tried to make too much juice once... got a little carried away with putting stuff into the chute so there was a lot of foam in the container. If you leave the lid on, it catches most of the foam unless you overload it like I did. I started using a strainer and pouring the juice (using the container provided with the lid) to get even less foam into the glass. But that is personal preference. It is not like you get an entire glass of foam or anything. And maybe you like foam. I put a little paper towel under the spout to catch any drips after juicing and removing the container.
I generally only juice on the weekends, but it is because I don't have a lot of time in the mornings to peel and cut fruit. The size of the chute is great though. I peel more than I cut. Clean up is easy. Rinse everything and throw it in the dishwasher. Done. Woo hoo!
Read the instruction booklet!!! Don't let anyone try and use it without having provided clear instructions to them. Don't assume they will figure it out. Only takes one family member to go unsupervised into the kitchen and come up with a bright idea... no, not rocket science, but no need to waste all that fruit!
Also, it isn't very loud and doesn't take up too much space. I mean on both accounts it is what I expected. The best part (besides drinking the juice) is all the fiber collected. Plenty of recipes to use the fiber. It is kinda neat too; seeing all the colors of the fruits mixed. I know, I am dork. Anyway, I am really happy with this purchase.
Customer Review: Fast & Easy! Summary: 3 Stars
We purchased the Breville 800 Juice fountain after extensive research and days of reading reviews on juicers but are not sure we made the best choice. After trying it out for a week we knew we had to make a decision because we only had 15 days to return it. We decided to keep it because of how fast it juices and how easy it is to clean (it only takes me 3-4 minutes to rinse off the parts and brush off the filter). With our busy mornings this is a very quick way to make a few glasses of juice. On the negative side it is very loud and while this is the only juicer I have had, it seems to have a lot of waste, even whole bits of carrot that end up in the pulp bucket. This occurs even though I am careful to push the carrots though slowly like instructed. It also creates a lot of foam which is left in the pitcher and I don't drink that so it's waste too. I know the masticating juicers make better quality juice but with the ease of the Breville we don't have to worry about making juice in advance. We can make a glass or two anytime we want and drink it right away so it may be a little less quality but we are drinking fresh juice and it's much better than store bought juice, needless to say. For this type of juicer I would say it's probably one of the best with it's stainless steel parts. I would like to see how other juicers like the Omega 2005 or the Champion work and how much waste is left so I would have some comparision. We really blow through a lot of carrots! We are drinking fresh juices and feel good about that. If I had to do it over I would find someone who has a Champion or Omega and actually go over to watch them use it. My friend has a Champion and loves it but she doesn't live close by so I never saw it in action. We also didn't need a juicer that also makes nut butters and all those other things because we already have a Vita Mix. Juicing was the only thing we were wanting and the Breville does make good tasting juice. I have made some great carrot raisen muffins with the pulp!
Customer Review: Wonderful product Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I have really enjoyed using this juicer. As mentioned by other reviewers, it is easy to operate, take apart, clean, and put back together. Here are my tips:
1.) The juicer (when assembled with the pulp bin and pitcher) is large: roughly 16" wide x 9" deep x 16 3/4" high, so make sure you have enough room for it. We keep it on a $1 plastic placemat I bought at Walmart so that we can slide it forward on our countertop when we are using it, then slide it back against the wall when we are done.
2.) Glad Food Storage Bags - gallon size (11" x 12.5") - are perfect for lining the pulp bin. After juicing, you can store the pulp in the bag in the refrigerator or freezer.
3.) Try using the pulp in your cooking. I add the pulp from one juicing session to the bran muffin recipe from the Cook's Illustrated May/June 2007 issue. The only adjustment I need to make to the recipe is to slightly increase the baking time. Delicious, and even my kids love them. I also add the pulp to pasta sauce, and my kids are none the wiser. The instruction book that comes with the juicer has a number of recipes for using the pulp as well.
4.) The instruction book has a number of juice recipes in it. Our juice recipe is based on Martha Stewart's, with some additions of our own:
- one large handful fresh spinach, stems and all
- one large handful Italian flat-leaf parsley, stems and all
- one half or one whole cucumber, peeled
- 2 to 4 sticks of celery, leaves and all
- one large or several small carrots
- one 1" piece of fresh ginger, peeled
- one apple (we do not peel or core it)
- one pear (we do not peel or core it)
- one mango or one large piece of papaya, peeled and seeded
- one orange, peeled
- one lime or lemon, peeled
5.) There are video clips of the juicer on youtube.com and marthastewart.com if you want to see it in action before you buy.
Customer Review: Breville 800JEXL one month on Summary: 4 Stars
I believe that everyone would benefit from reading Robert Thomas' review and some of the comments that go with it.
I have found no reason to be anything but satisfied. It arrived within 2 days via std shipping - unexpectedly in time for Christmas. It has worked almost perfectly, with no unnecessary debris launches, rattles, or mishaps [for the whole month we've had it] Occasional juice escapes but not much. Yes it is big but I'm happy to have it on the counter where I know it's getting the attention it deserves [demands]. It's fast, not too loud, and fairly painless to clean. In general the only down sides are that it doesn't do everything as we knew beforehand and I've been subjected to a few unnecessary flavor combinations as the gift's recipient experiments.
Examples [for illustration not complaint]; we have failed to have much success with flavoring juices with things leafy or things that lack enough mass to be thoroughly abused by all those little teeth. Cloves of garlic and lumps of ginger are pitiful examples that we have not yet found a work around for yet. The booklet suggests wrapping and leafy things around and between heftier items, sometimes it works but not always. With soft fruits like mango we have seen sufficient reward from 're-extracting' the pulp to be worth the sticky fingers - I'd say that goes on a produce by produce experimentation basis and on how firm they are. I'm keen to keep experimenting. Regulars like apples, carrots, and celery are a dream.
I have to say it is very nice to de-stress by watching an apple simply cease to exist and be rewarded for your depraved guttural satisfaction with a tasty beverage. Yes we get through a lot more veggies and fruit - but that was the plan though for some reason I now find I'm eating more apples as well.
Overall, a very happy purchase and thanks to Robert Thomas et al.
