Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice ExtractorCustomer Review: As good as it gets! Summary: 5 Stars
Thanks for all the reviews here at Amazon, I bit the bullet and bought the Breville Elite a month back.
My juicing needs are as follows:
- get some vegetable juice into my 2.5yr old twin boys who don't eat as many vegetables (but eat enough fruits)
- make straight carrot juice for myself as I just *love* carrot juice
- buy a juicer that is robust and one that will last a long time, if taken care of
- frequency of juicing is 1-3 times a week
The performance of Breville against my needs has been plain awesome. This is my first (and hopefully the only!) juicer so I can't cross compare to another product.
The Pros:
- Have made various fruit and vegetable juices till date and it works great
- Made decent spinach juice a few days back and the performance juicing spinach is good
- The pulp is reasonably dry if I don't rush the juicing (see Cons for more)
- Cleaning is relatively easy, although you need to ensure that you clean the filter/cutting basket thoroughly (see Cons for more)
- The noise level, size, spitting out of small pieces and vibration etc are all within my tolerance limits
The Cons:
- I noticed that if I juice 3 carrots at the same time, the pulp is quite a bit damper that when I juice one carrot at a time. Since the filter basket has a fine mesh, it is possible that the speed of juicing with multiple carrots could be overwhelming how much juice can flow thro' the mesh. I have since gone to juicing one long carrot at a time without making the entire juicing process too long and the pulp is quite dry
- I also noticed that the times the filter basket is not thoroughly cleaned, the pulp is damper than when the basket is very clean. It again goes back to the "through-put" of how much juice can flow through a partially clogged filter basket.
To summarize, the only circumventable annoyance I have with this machine is the dampness of the pulp. This I have reduced to the filter basket performance because of either the speed of juicing or clogged pores; and both are manageable. So, I am giving this machine "5 Star" rating and it is as good as it gets.
Customer Review: Delicious juice, easy clean up -- a winner! Summary: 5 Stars
I am an aspiring raw foodist and decided to buy a juicer to further expand my repetoire. I did a lot of research and initially decided on a Champion masticating juicer. From what I had read, masticating juicers are supposed to be better at retaining all of the nutrients because they do not expose the juice to as much air, and they do a better job of juicing greens. But then I read reviews complaining about how difficult the Champion is to clean, and how long it takes to make juice. Knowing that I will not use an appliance if it's difficult to clean, I decided to by the Breville instead.
Boy, and I glad I did! This machine is amazing. It produces large volumes of juice in seconds, and it is a breeze to clean up. It is true that the juice will oxidize (turn brown) quickly, but I drink mine right away, so that's not really a concern for me. I love that it churns out the juice so quickly--I can whip up a fresh juice blend for my toddler first thing in the morning before he starts whining about how hungry he is. And he's drinking all sorts of things that he either wouldn't eat or wouldn't have enough room for in his stomach. Plus it juices greens surprisingly well, though I have only tried juicing sturdy greens like romaine and kale.
As for clean-up, I simply remove the filter basket, scrub with the included scrubbing brush for 30-60 seconds, then pop it into the top rack of my dishwasher. The other parts usually just need a quick rinse at the sink, and then they go on the drying rack. I also place a bag in the extractor bin to catch all of the pulp from the juicer--one less thing to wash! And now that I'm buying much more produce, I have plenty of small bags around the house to line the bin.
Lastly, this machine is just beautiful. I love the clean, stainless steel look and the art deco shape. I don't keep it out on my counter, because it's too tall to fit just right, but I sure do love seeing it out when I'm using it. Maybe the Champion is better at creating longer-lasting juices or getting more juice out of greens, but I'm still glad I got the Breville. I use it every day, and I never dread the clean-up. That's a win!
Customer Review: Fantastic juicer -- easy to use, easy to clean, makes great juice! Summary: 5 Stars
After a lot of research I chose the Breville 1000-Watt Juice Fountain because I knew that if it wasn't easy to use and clean I wouldn't use it often. I've been juicing with this at least once a day, often twice, for 6 weeks now and I absolutely love it. I mostly juice hard vegetables, like beets, carrots, parsnips, etc., plus leafy greens like watercress, parsely, wheatgrass, spinach, etc. There is no sign of wear on the filter basket and I've had no problems with leaks, flying vegetables, etc. (The guy who has fruit flying over his head is clearly not using the food pusher that comes with it. I use this no matter what I'm juicing, and it's impossible for something to fly up out of the machine and make a mess.)
I recommend that people read the directions first, as there are lots of good tips. For example, even though it's advertised as being strong enough to juice pineapple with the rind on, the directions clearly don't advise it. For leafy greens they advise bundling them or sending them down with another fruit or vegetable. This works great. I was surprised at how well this juices wheatgrass and parsely as long as I either roll it up in a lettuce leaf or stuff it between two halfs of another vegetable or fruit. This machine juices very quickly, with a good yield and leaving pretty dry pulp. The tube is very large so I don't have to spend a lot of time cutting up produce -- most of it goes down whole or just cut in half. This is a huge time-saver!
It's a breeze to assemble and a breeze to clean. I don't bother with the dishwasher. As suggested in the directions, I line the pulp basket with a bag, so there's no clean-up there. After juicing, I immediately rinse off the food particles and soak the parts in a sink full of soapy water. Then I just rinse them off and let them air dry. The brush included does a great job of cleaning the filter basket, but you have to clean both sides. I love that there are no tiny nooks and crannies where food can get stuck -- everything is easy to clean and it's a snap to put back together for the next batch of delicious juice. I am really happy with my decision to purchase this particular juicer.
Customer Review: The Search Ends Here! Summary: 5 Stars
We searched and searched for a blender that will hold up to my wife's every other day usage. I would check out an item on the internet, read the reviews, then go find it in a store. Being somewhat of a designer/inventor I wanted to see how well they were made. Every one, without exception, had their flaws. Most were made of a thin PVC plastic. The locking mechanisms that secured the pieces together were a plastic on plastic design which would deterioriate in no time. I even checked out the highly touted Jack LaLane juicer and at first glance it was a possibility. But a further examination of the unit proved to me that it too is basically a child's toy. It is loud, as were all the others. It is lightweight, and was going to be a messy operation and difficult to clean. I did not believe that it would hold up very long. Then I found the Breville on the internet. I read all the reviews, even the negative ones. The biggest complaint was loudness and that the blades get dull. Well, if people are complaining about the noise of the motor then they must have super-sensitive hearing. Regarding the blades going dull, even the finest knives have to be sharpened. No blade will stay sharp indefinately. I was unable to find the product locally so I figured I would take a chance and order it through Amazon knowing that if we didn't like it we could send it back. This juicer is without a doubt the best juicer on the market. It's all stainless steel construction is very durable. It has a quiet motor. It doesn't jump around during usage, like some of the others. It doesn't make a mess all over the table. And it cleans up in less than five minutes. We have been using this machine for over a month now, and using it according to instructions and it still juices as good as day one. (Sure the blades will get dull in time, but you can find them quite reasonably priced on places like eBay.) My wife loves this machine so much, she looks for a reason to use it. If you are serious about juicing then this is the juicer for you. Don't be fooled by other lower priced units. The Breville 800JEXL is worth every penny. You won't be sorry!
Customer Review: High Quality Product - Highly Recommended Summary: 5 Stars
I have used the Juiceman II juicer for several years. I thought it was pretty good. But I wasn't thrilled with with fastening mechanism that held the top in place, the juice spout (which leaked and would over shoot the juice container) and overall construction. Though the product worked pretty well, the white plastic bowl which housed the cutting blade, became discolored by the fruits and veggies that were passed through it, and the product was messy to use.
I just purchased the Breville 800JEXL and am pleasantly surprised. The Stainless Steel Bowl that houses the cutting disc, is a welcome sight. It uses a spigot to fill the juice pitcher and prevents spills and mess. The machine is very quiet, and works very quickly.
Comparing the Juiceman II to the Breville 800JEXL is similar comparing a Geo Metro to a Lexus (which I don't own, but know the quality standard). Both work, but the quality, ergonomics and consumer experience make the difference.
I have read many reviews before buying this unit and they are accurate. I cannot see a problem with the product after using it 6 times.
The GOOD:
* Quality
* Craftsmanship
* Thoughtful Positioning of the controls
* Low Noise Level
* Ease of Cleaning
* Speed of Operation
* Design
* Steel Bowl and Housing
* Cleans easily with the spray attachment on the sink
* Fits in the dishwasher as advertised
The Bad:
* Electrical cord sits off to the side at the front. (different but qualifies as functional)
* The enclosed cleaning brush has a small diameter head, and the soft bristles aren't effective in cleaning the cutting disc.
QUALITY. SPEED, and SUPERIOR CRAFTSMANSHIP.
You Get What You Pay For.
TIPS:
* When buying product collect extra produce bags to line the collection bucket, minimizing clean up.
* Wash all the parts of the machine prior to using it. ( a quick wash in the dishwasher)
* Juice yourself Silly.....
