Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice ExtractorCustomer Review: Blades on lasted 4 months! Summary: 2 Stars
We purchased this juicer to go with our new kitchen makeover. It has worked great until last 2 to 3 weeks. It has been producing wet pulp and large pieces. I emailed Breville USA. It goes like this with their response and my response back. Great product but bad cutter and bad customer service. I am debating on if I should buy replacement blades.
["Well done,
Spoken like our Washington politicians. It makes my decision easier. I will not buy two of your other small appliances that I was planning to get.
Poor answer. Carrots and beets are standard veggies to juice, It appears you don't juice or use your own product.

Unfortunately, harder foods like carrots and beets do cause the
blades/teeth to wear more quickly than the softer varieties. It helps
to preserve the life of the cutting disc if you take care to push with
just enough force to make the pusher advance slowly into the chute.

Comment: I purchased the Breville Juicer Elite in February as a small
appliance after our extreme kitchen makeover. It has worked great until
two weeks ago. I noticed it is not grinding as it did when new. Wet,
large pieces get thrown out, less juice. We juice everyday and I
religiously clean the filter immediately after juicing. The screen is
clean. The only thing different is the the little blades are dull.
When new you couldn't touch the tines without cutting your digits, now
that's not the case.
I have had numerous juicers in my life yours is great but the same thing
has happened as with the others, the blades get dull.
We juice carrots, red bell peppers, beets, apple, pear, celery every
morning. In the afternoon we juice pineapple, apple, and pear.
I think the blades should last longer than about 4 months. Any Advice?"]
Customer Review: So far, SO GREAT!!! Summary: 5 Stars
So I finally threw down the dough and the Breville Fountain Elite has been well worth it. I was replacing an old dusty Braun juicer, dusty because it sat unused in the back of my appliance cabinet. Too much effort to clean. As promised by most reviewers, the Breville is nearly a pleasure to clean, and it takes me about two minutes to make my green juice with apple and ginger each morning and maybe another five minutes to clean all the parts by hand. I contemplated buying a masticating juicer but in the end knew that I just wouldn't commit the time to juicing if there was going to be any real effort expended on clean-up (I respect those masticating purists who expend more energy but I just know myself...) Of course the large mouth is such a nice feature and cuts down on chopping and feeding. The Breville admirably juices all of my leafy greens (don't feed it wheatgrass).
I haven't saved as much money as I had initially projected by juicing at home instead of getting my juice at my local health food store. Unlike a promise of many glowing reviews, the pulp seems pretty wet to me, which indicates that the juicer is trashing a lot of nutritious manna. This review has now been edited to mention that I now put all of my pulp through the juicer after I've juiced all my vegetables. I have found very narrow bags that I use to catch the pulp within the pulp container and they fit down the neck of the juicer so it isn't that much of a pain to then juice the wet pulp. The fact that this is necessary is a bit annoying and if I could change my star rating I would but I still love the machine. I have also found that the green juice I was getting from my local health food store was a bit more potent-tasting, and I only juice the freshest organic vegetables at home. The color of the drink is also subtly swampier and less vibrant. This seems to suggest that the Breville is slightly cooking the vegies at its high speed (even at the lower of the two speeds). The difference is subtle but detectable. I've tried feeding the leafy greens slower and I also put everything (including carrots and apples) through the lower (600 watt) setting to mitigate against heating unless it won't budge, but it really doesn't seem to matter. This said, I am still giving the juicer an excellent rating because I am pretty convinced that no juicer is easier to operate or clean which is what I cared about the most. I also enjoy displaying this sleek stainless steel beauty on my kitchen counter. It reminds me to juice and it compels my guests to buy one as a result of their appliance envy.
Customer Review: Awesome!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am the Queen of Research and after spending a month doing research on which juicer to buy, I decided on this one and I am so happy with it. All the previous reviews (especialy from those who have owned masticating juicers) were incredibly helpful. I agonized about deciding between a masticating juicer that gives better quality juice - but at the expense of time and labourious cleanup - and a centrifugal juicer - that may have produced a slightly lower quality juice (less live enzymes) but was quick and easy to clean. This Breville is amazing! The juice is great and it is so fast! It takes me about 5 minutes from veggy prep to clean up.
Here are some tips for quick use. Most important is to read the instructions CAREFULLY before using! Obvious, but even after reading them, I made some mistakes that I blamed on the juicer - but it was me.
And there were little things that I missed. First off, have the juicer turned on and going at full RPM before adding the veggies to the juicer; otherwise you'll get inefficient juicing and a waste of veggies. Next, make sure that the large chunks of veggies (eg. quartered beets) slide vertically into the feeder by using the guide on the lower inside of the feeder, otherwise, some veggies will end up sideways and not juice efficiently.
For super quick clean-up, I put Large size Glad Storage Bags in the pulp collector (not expensive to use and great fit). If I'm just juicing for myself, I place a large glass under the juice spout instead of the large container supplied - I drink straight from the glass and the container is one less item to clean. If you don't like the foam though, you'll want to use the supplied container with the foam skimmer. After juicing - about 3 minutes - I empty the bag from the pulp collector into the garbage and put in another bag for next time (this way the collector requires no cleaning), rinse the stainless steel bowl, food pusher, and plastic top under hot water and set aside to air dry. I soak the filter basket in water while I'm at work and when I get home it's much easier to clean - about 3 minutes. Make sure you clean it really well or else you'll get problems with clogging. I don't put the pieces in the dishwasher b/c they take up a lot of space.
I have had absolutely no problems with this juicer and have used it daily for a month now.
I absolutely love this juicer! It's the only one to buy if you want to ensure that juicing is quick, clean up is easy, and you get quality juice.
Customer Review: Breville 800JEXL Many Good Points - Rating reduced to 4/5 Summary: 5 Stars
In August of 2005:
When I opened its box, it really looked liked a serious machine. I have used several others, one costing as much as $600 but it took forever to clean (almost 30 minutes) and I sold it to someone else who had much more free time on their hands. For me the Breville 800 is exceptional quality. It is rugged, classy, well priced (every dollar is worth it), and very easy to use. I can juice whole cored apples in a push of the food plunger to make 8 ounces of apple juice in about 30 seconds. I can make a pint of carrot juice (I place as many as 3 carrots in the food tunnel simulanaeously) in about 1 minute. There are just no disadvantages with this one. It has a smaller version of 95XL but it is not as powerful and not as well built. Before buying the 800 model, I actually burnt out the motor on the 95XL model after juicing about 1 pint of carrots and 1 pint of apple juice. However, the company stands behind its product 110%. After a call, they emailed me a pre-paid mailing label for the return and in a matter of days the new juicer was at my door step. So I have two but my favorite and the best juicer I must again say is the Breville 800JEXL with its tough 1000 watts. You won't be disappointed with it if you want a well built and durable unit that can make juicing fun and easy. Another great thing is that it only takes about a couple of minutes to clean it up, and it is even quicker if you place an empty shopping plastic bag in the pulp container to catch the pulp.
In October of 2005 and about 200 pounds of juicing later:
A major disadvantage became evident. The second replacement Breville 800JEXL juicer that I received back from manufacturer also had the same problem of leaking and spitting out pulp liquid from straining basket area. The box of the replacement juicer had a receipt labeled Consignee, which led me to believe that the replacement may have been a rebuilt or remanufactured juicer; perhaps I am wrong. Now, with the replacement juicer, I have to still wipe frequently around the basket while I am juicing. I really still enjoy the fact that I do not have to cut produce into small pieces but the clean-up is becoming very frustrating during the juicing. I usually juice about 4 8-oz glasses of juicing at a time. Maybe this unit is not a rugid machine to use as much as I am doing. Nevertheless, its 3" large chute is the best selling point if you can get over the leaks and spurting of juice due to the poor seal in the juicing basket.
Customer Review: BEST JUICER.....BY FAR!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned a $100.00 Juice Man juicer for a year and it finally stopped working. It was hard to clean. I juice every morning and alternate between Fruit (apples, pears, pineapple, oranges and limes) and vegetables (plum tomatoes, celery, carrots, jalapeno, cilantro). The carrot residue is exceedingly difficult to remove from the basket and the tomato seeds get stuck between the cutting blades. The brush is cheap and slowly lost about half of the bristles over the year. When it quit, I fell for the TV hype and bought a Jack Lalanne Power Juicer Pro. What a piece of junk! At least the Juice Man has a good positive locking bar. The J.L Power Juicer has plastic grommets on top of the locking bar and a plastic cover which does not provide a good lock. Poor design!!!
I was told it was defective and sent it back and it was replaced. The second machine bogged down with the slightest pressure.
Its basket had the identical problems encountered with the Juice Man I sent it back and got a refund.
THEN I bit the bullet and bought the Breville Juicer.(800JEXL) Top of the line $299.00. with a 30.00 discount coupon at B.B and Beyond. The Titanium basket is twice as easy to clean. Carrots clean on the first run and it has yet to retain one tomato seed. Its rpm is so much faster than the other two. AND the residue is normally quite dry. The residue from Juice Man and JL Power Juicer was nrmally quite wet (contrary to the TV Hype). I bought small waste basket trash bags put in the residue catcher and cleaning is a breze. The Breville has the fewest parts, all the metal parts are sturdy. The juice collector is big (1 quart) and better in that it contains the juice better. The froth separator is ok ...but not that great on any of the machines. Thats ok for me as I always throw the fruit juice in a blender and add a banana and a raw egg. The veggies do not froth half as much. The Breville brush seems to have the bristles attached better as well. Have not lost one yet during cleaning.
Botom line...if you ae a hard core juicer and want a strong machine that easy to clean, sturdy and simple.....Buy the Breville Model 800JEXL. It has not bogged down on high speed and 99% of the time the residue does not chunk. I am totally satisfied.
