My wife and I have used a Philips HD4651 for several years and, by comparison, this kettle just doesn't hold its own. The first issue is that there is no insulating layer and the outside of the pot gets HOT. This is an issue for anyone with a habit of burning themselves in the kitchen (sorry, Honey). Secondly, there is no indicator sound to alert that the water has boiled, so, you know, the whole "watched pot" thing.... Finally, it. is. slow. I performed a side-by-side boiling contest versus the Philips (it still works, but it is dying...I don't want to talk about it...), same amount of water (1.7 liters) and the (several years) old HD4651 beat the new kid by 2 minutes and 15 seconds (8'30" vs 10'45"). That's over 25% longer! So, bottom line, this kettle is not a good fit for our house because we are impatient, like audible notifications, and are generally averse to third degree burns. However, in a more well adjusted home, this $[...] (plus shipping) model might work quite well.
