Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Breadman TR2500BC Ultimate Plus 2-Pound Stainless-Steel Convection BreadmakerCustomer Review: My daily Breadman Ultimate Summary: 4 Stars
I could have written a review earlier, but I wanted some experience with the machine before writing a review. The Breadman Ultimate works pretty much as advertised. There are a few quirks that keep me from giving a rating of five stars. I have been very pleased with the price and service supplied by Amazon.
I like adding seeds such as from caraway, flax, and wheat to the bread for added flavor and crunch. To that end, Breadman provides an Extras button. Pressing this button is supposed to open a trap door to drop seeds into the dough at the proper time in the knead cycle. When you press the button, the Extras are enabled. If you press again, the Extras are disabled. After a press, "Extras" appears for a few seconds on the LCD display and then blanks out. The consequence is that you do not know the status of Extras. I have worked around this whenever I realized that the trap door did not drop. I can use a pen or other such object to release the seeds. They get stirred into the dough sufficiently during punch downs.
I also have trouble with my vision. It is very difficult for me to make out the LCD display. I use a flashlight to help, but the reflections from the LCD glass makes it difficult to read with or without the extra light.
As far as the bread is concerned, that has turned out well. With cold weather coming on, I will tend to use the dough cycles more and finish baking the bread in my oven, As with all breadmakers I know of, the problem of the kneading blade remaining in the bread still persists,
Customer Review: One Great Breadmaker!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Bought a Welbuilt model for 5 bucks at a yard sale. Worked ok, but the bread always stuck in the pan and the sides burned almost everytime. The wife said look for a better one. Saw this model and the price and fell in love. Packed with features, stainless steel, and really good looking. Received the unit in 2 days. Was'nt impressed with the outside shell. Appeared to have water stains on it. It also wobbled and the inside extras compartment had gouges in it. Called Amazon and they gladly sent me out another one that same day. They even sent it overnight air. Issued me a call tag for defective unit. Received 2nd. unit next day and it was much better. No marks, gouges, nothing. Did the break in program and then it was time to bake. First was a 2 lb. loaf of Cinnamon Raisin bread. OUTSTANDING!! Next was French bread. Ditto. Then Basic White, awesome. I bake a loaf of bread on average every 2 days. I have yet to find one flaw in a loaf. My only issues with the unit is it does not look like the one pictured or described in the manual. Mine does not have side handles as pictured, and I have different bread settings than described in the manual and box. My concern was "Is this an older model that I received?" I have contacted Amazon 3 times so far and no one has gotten back to me on this. I even went to a couple of breadmaker websites and they won't answer me either. That is my only complaint. I highly recommend this unit. The price is outstanding and the end product is second to none.
Customer Review: Great fun and easy enough for anyone to use (updated to one star) Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I purchased the Breadman TR2500BC Ultimate Plus because it seemed like an interesting appliance.
It is so easy to use, just following the included instructions/recipes, even a person with virtually no baking experience can get great results. We made whole wheat, rye, corn, and multi grain bread. We made plain and fancy bagels. We made some of the best pizza ever. Maine winters and chilly kitchens have not stopped dough from rising and we've made no adjustments to recipes or the machine's operation, ever. We have gone on to program in some of our own modified recipes; another easy to use feature.
Yes, the machine does vibrate in place a bit and you can hear the dough ball getting whipped around when it is being kneaded, but this is more of a low rumble than a real noise. Compared to an open mixer, the machine is silent. It is also easy to clean and a quality electro-mechanical assembly.
My only issue with the unit, as is the case with most bread makers, is that the loaf is high in profile so slices are quite tall. We usually cut one slice in half to make a sandwich. The food must be coming out ok because our friends seem to like us a lot these days.
Update - Within a dozen uses, the function that adds ingredients broke. Within another dozen used the clips that hold the mixing pan wore and no longer held the pan in place, allowing the pan to jump off of the drive in the midst of a cycle. Junk over the longer haul.
Customer Review: lovely bread, but machine could be better designed Summary: 3 Stars
I've had this machine for about a year now, and have used it for nearly all of our bread during that time. It's still turning out very tasty loaves, but:
1) The first unit I bought had to be returned due to defects (couldn't enter manual programs, and the fruit & nut dispenser didn't open at all).
2) The fruit & nut dispenser is pretty much useless. On my second machine, it does open, but after unlatching relies on gravity for the dumping action. Even with something relatively heavy in it such as raisins, gravity is insufficient to have it open wide enough to effectively dump the ingredient into the bread. Result: cooked raisins still in the dispenser. And forget about trying to use it for herbs - way, way too light.
3) The mechanism of attaching the pan into the machine isn't great quality and can warp with time and use. It well worked for a while but now requires a lot of fussing, particularly to get the pan out afterwards. Not impossible, but pretty annoying.
4) As others have mentioned, Breadman is no longer manufacturing replacement pans/paddles. If yours get too scratched or dinged, it's eBay or nuthin'.
On the upside, the bread is still very tasty and well-formed. I like being able to program in custom programs. The recipe book that comes with the machine has some absolutely fabulous breads. So... I'm not dumping mine until it really breaks, but I'd probably try something else next time.
Customer Review: Machine Container to Frame has a Major Design Defect Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased a Breadman TR2500BC about 1.5 months ago. I had to send the unit back because the container during the kneeding process would 100% of the time pop out of containment and wedge the kneeding paddles and electric motor inside the machine. This is a possible fire hazord. I sent the new machine back and ordered another TR2500BC hoping that this defect was a a fluke. No way....this is a design flaw because my second machine which arrived had the same problem of the container popping out again 100% of the time durring the kneeding process. I find it hard to believe that all reviews from those that actually used the machine and sent in a reviews...... havent' mention this design flaw. Although the machine will make great bread, if you stand over the container holding down so it pop out of its brackets and jam up, this is the worst machine that I ever have come to know. I would never leave the breadmachine to run without me being in the kitchen to make certain the container doesn't pops out of the containment brackets and thereby wedging/jamming up the motor and catching fire. I sending back my second new machine this week. The defect shows up while using white/med/1# cycle 100% of the time. Suggest that you don't buy or trust this machine...danger.....Breadman TR2500BC Ultimate Plus 2-Pound Stainless-Steel Convection Breadmaker
