Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bread Slicer Elite, Brushed Stainless Steel Guide and Maple Wood Bread Board (5 Inch Loaf)Customer Review: First-rate craftsmanship Summary: 5 Stars
Craftsmanship: I will make an effort to steer guests past the point on my counter where this device resides - right next to the Kitchen Aid Pro 600 where I make my bread! It's just beautifully made, period. My kids will fight over this one after I die.
Delivery: Amazing! ONE HOUR after I put in the order, I got another email from Amazon saying the product had been shipped. The slicer arrived THE NEXT DAY! Ha! Just found out I live about 20 miles from the factory. Way to go, Bread Slicer Depot. You can find them on the Web and they have an Amazon storefront.
Cost: It is a bit expensive, but not much more than you'd pay for a good dinner out with the spouse. I seriously doubt that anyone even having access to a good machine shop could turn out a product this classy for less money.
Summary: If you're tired of having wavy bread, now thicker at the bottom, now thinner, this is what you need. It's easy to use and easy to keep clean. I am using an 8-inch bread knife with it, but a 10+ inch would probably be a bit easier.
One previous reviewer mentioned treating the maple wood slicer with olive oil. Please don't! Olive oil is *food* and can attract insects, go sour and grow nasty things. Do as they say in the directions and treat the base with *mineral* oil to keep it clean and bring out the wood grain. Mineral oil is non-organic and doesn't attract unintended consequences.

How it is made
Make certain your loaf width is five inches or less...see our website.
We use twenty stainless steel screws to build it (strong). Compare our slicer's weight at about 4.5 pounds to the other slicers in this segment (usually around one pound). You can expect inexpensive, soft wood stapled together in some instances..we only use hard maple. Our slicer will also arrive fully assembled....whereas most of the other slicers do not.
This bread slicer is hand made with pride in Tampa, Florida to give you perfectly sliced bread at home and will last you a long long time.
The wood is natural maple, we do not treat it with anything. Please see our website for more on seasoning a bread board.
We use it daily to cut our own bread.
We recommend using a long, sharp bread knife that has a blade length of at least ten inches for best results.
If you hand make your bread, our slicer may still be for you. See our website for a scan of our slicer guide. You can print this out and then you can compare the size of your loaf to our stainless steel guides. You will then know if our slicer will suit your hand made loaf. We also have a 6 inch wide Elite Ampio and our Classic for wider loaves.
Happy Baking, the Bread Slicer Depot!
