Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Braun MX2050 PowerMax 525-Watt 58-Ounce Jug BlenderCustomer Review: Delightfully Surprised Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this blender by mistake, but then was delightfully surprised. I wanted a powerful blender to crush ice and our old one was more like "scratching" ice cubes than "crushing" them. After reading a few reviews on amazon I decided this is the one to go, then hastily placed order. Minutes later, keeping reading more reviews, I started to see complaints about this blender's limited capability in crushing ice, then I thought I made a mistake and tried to cancel the order. Too late, with prime shipping option, the order was instantly placed into processing stage and no cancellation was possible to my chagrin.
Today I received the package, pulled out the blender, and instantly noticed one review complaint I had read about this blender was untrue - that the top removable cap can easily pop off during blending. No way! If you twist the cap, it actually LOCKS into place, not just sits there waiting to pop off. Anyhow, I added a handful of ice cubes, and turned on the blender at speed #1. Wow, it crushed the ice cubes into white powder with no relent. That's the kind of blender I'm looking for to make margarita and other iced drinks. I regretted the purchase only two days ago but now it turned out to be a total delightful surprise.
Customer Review: Great for frozen fruit smoothies - but you have to learn the tricks! Summary: 4 Stars
As one other reviewer said, at first I had challenges with this blender when making frozen fruit smoothies. It seemed I was always using a spoon to push more of the fruit down towards the blades.
Then I learned a similar trick to the other poster - put in your juice along with any softer fruits at the bottom of the blender, then have the frozen stuff at the top.
For example, I love to make my strawberry (frozen), banana (fresh), blueberry (frozen) smoothies.
I used to put in the apple juice and strawberries first, then toss in bananas and blueberries in no particular order. This approach was not effective.
Now, I put in the apple juice and bananas first, then blueberries, then strawberries on top.
It blends like a charm, and unlike the other poster, I don't have to keep adding fruit over and over. I put it all in once, occasionally give the blender a shake if it seems to get a little stuck, and then go.
When you first get this blender, have a little patience for finding the right combination of juice and fruit. Once you hit that magic combination, it works perfectly every time and I am VERY pleased with the blender as compared to others I have tried.
Customer Review: DON'T BUY THIS BLENDER! Summary: 1 Stars
Seriously, you will just wind up brokenhearted. It fails sooner or later--usually sooner, and stays that way. The motor is great, the jar is great, and while it works you'll think it's the best blender in the world. But then the blade assemble WILL fail, and you will have a broken blender, and you'll think it's just a fluke, and you'll order another one (not cheap, either)--and that one will fail almost immediately or better yet ARRIVE BROKEN. We have ordered SIX replacement blades, more fool us, some from Braun and some from other vendors, and NONE worked upon arrival. And I don't mean even for crushing ice--we tried fresh, raw cantaloupe, tender delicate slices-like-butter cantaloupe, and the blade was immobilized. (We have video to prove this.)
Those great reviews are by people who haven't had the blender long enough for it to fail--but it will, and they will be writing back any day now.
Skip the frustration and go with another blender. Until Braun promises they've fixed the blade assembly problem, this one is just an expensive way to waste time and counterspace. Just put a vase of flowers there instead.
Customer Review: Excellent blender Summary: 5 Stars
This blender was purchased for the purpose of making smoothies. I did research and made sure I found a strong-motored blender that won't jam or have that burning metal smell when crushing ice. Consumer Reports magazine labeled this blender as a "best buy", and I completely agree with them. The glass jug is sturdy and attractive, and the motor is strong and fairly quiet. (Is there such a thing as a silent blender?) The removable piece in the top of the blender makes adding the ice (or any other harder food) to the liquid a breeze. I have used it many times, and have had no problems. (It leaked the first time I used it, but it was because I didn't see that the rubber ring was not re-inserted after the initial washing - oops!) Cleanup is fairly easy, but be careful as the blades are very sharp! A tip for cleanup is to rinse the jug with water immediately after pouring the beverage so nothing will dry and crust up on the blades, thus avoiding getting one's fingers dangerously close to the very sharp objects! As long as directions are followed for assembly and food prep, you will have this blender for a long, long time.
Customer Review: Almost perfect! Summary: 5 Stars
Powerful and not overly noisy by comparison to other blenders, the Braun is a workhorse with a 525 Watt motor providing more output than just about any other blender. The glass canister is perfect for blending hot items (such as making wing sauce) or crushing Ice.
The only weakness we have encountered is in the blade design. I would recommend getting a spare blade "just in case." They are available for around $15.00 online. We use our blender to make extra-thick protein shakes every morning, and over time the blades slipped from a "+" shape to a "x" shape. After several years of heavy use with boiling/frozen liquids, and machine washing, the plastic teeth on the bottom of the blade mount broke off. Now I have to wait for a replacement. Do yourself a favor and buy a replacement in advance.
I still give this blender five star rating. The price is less than other blenders in its class and it has a stronger motor. The heavy duty glass canister and motor make up for the blade weakness, turning a flaw into a routine maintenance item.
