Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Braun MR5550MBC Impressions Multiquick HandblenderCustomer Review: Fantastic kitchen tool Summary: 5 Stars
We find ourselves using this more often than any other kitchen appliance we own. And we have a lot of them, perhaps too many. Great for everything except making bread / cookie or any hard dough. For that, we have used the Bosch Universal for years. Another great, powerful german kitchen machine. Make soups, creams, fruit smoothies, milk shakes, omelets, batters (including pancake), meringues, whipped cream, purees of all sorts, sauces, spreads. Chop herbs, onions, nuts, hard cheese, etc., etc. Limited (almost) only by your imagination. Someone reviewing this blender set earlier said he/she can't make mashed potatoes with this. Wrong. I make mashed potatoes with this all the time. Use the stainless steel blade right in the same pot you boiled the potatoes in. Unless you like yours really dry, than you should have no problem making it. Just make sure the potatoes are as hot as possible right after boiling them, add enough HOT milk, broth or liquid of choice + all the other ingredients you like/want, insert the stainless steel attachment, start slow and then increase speed progressively and voala!; Smoothest mashed potatoes ever! It will stiffen as it starts cooling anyway due to the starches in the potatoes. Bon appetit!
PS: German engineered, european built (Poland) and it shows, believe me! Just about all the other brands blenders/handblenders on the market are built in China. And while chinese quality has improved recently, it's still behind. Upon close examination you will see the much better quality components, fit and finish. Which makes me believe it should last longer. I had my Bosch Universal mixer for many years and used it often and it still runs like new! I compared this Braun set to another hand blender set, "Wolfgang Puck" sold at Costco, made in China (Mr. Wolfgang Puck, why does a german chef put his name on a blender - and other kitchen gadgets for that matter - made in China anyway? - I would imagine your income is pretty high as it is, can't you afford putting your name on quality appliances? Or better yet, can you afford not to?).
Happy cooking!... or should I say, Happy cheffing!?
