Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Braun KF590 Impressions Digital 10-Cup Programmable CoffeemakerCustomer Review: Finally, a coffeemaker worth keeping! Summary: 5 Stars
I am tickled pink about this coffeemaker! After trying at least five completely unsatisfactory coffee makers in less than four years (some so cheaply or poorly designed I wonder what the designers could have been thinking), we have FINALLY found a coffee maker we're happy with. The design is very nice and takes up slightly less counter space than others, which was a pleasant surprise. The caraffe, although only 10 cups (which equals about five largish mugs of coffee) is very nicely balanced and easy to pour. We like the little button on top of the machine that opens the basket door, and we like the permanent gold filter. No more paper filters for us! But what I like most is that the coffee tastes great and is HOT HOT HOT when it's poured. We can set the 'stay warm' feature to remain on for up to four hours. Not that any pot of coffee lasts that long at our house, but it's nice to have that option. Highly recommended!!
Customer Review: Not bad -- just wish the coffee was hotter Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I love to wake up to hot coffee every morning. We used to own a Braun coffee maker with a timer, and it worked well for us for many years. When it finally bit the dust, we pulled out a Gevalia coffee maker that we got for free. We hated it, mainly because it was difficult to fill without splashing water over the kitchen counter, and the coffee just wasn't as hot as our old Braun. I did quite a bit of research online, and used the reviews from Amazon and Consumer Reports to decide which coffee maker to buy next. I settled on this one, mainly because I bought the scaled down version (without the timer) to use at work and it was easy to fill and clean. My wife and I do enjoy this one, but the coffee just isn't as hot as what came out of our old one. It is easy to use, and does a reasonably good job. Setting the timer is straightforward. The only other criticism I have is I wish it made 12 cups.
Customer Review: Great little machine. Summary: 5 Stars
This machine is an improvement over the previous Braun coffeemaker we had. We bought this as a replacement because the previous one, after 5 years, was starting to wear out. One of the issues was that with the last puff of steam in the brew cycle, the basket would become unseated and swing out a bit, sometimes still retaining water to brew-through. This new model has a latch for the basket so this is one issue solved. Coffee is brewed quickly and is the right temperature. I thought the list price was a little more than I wanted to pay - but luckily, it went on sale at a department store for $49.99 with holiday sales. If you don't like the Britta filter in this machine, there is a spacer attachment, so you don't have to use a filter. For our normal drinking water,we use Britta filtered water from a carafe, so don't plan on purchasing filters for the coffeemaker for already filtered water.
Customer Review: Good But Not Great Summary: 4 Stars
I so wanted to really like this coffee maker, but alas, that was not to be.
Pros:
The coffee is really HOT
Timer and programmable automatic shut off are really nice
Looks great on my counter
Cons:
Coffee brews waaay too fast. If you are brewing just 1 or 2 cups, the coffee comes out weak. I use a paper filter and the included gold filter, which helps some. Bottomline, a slow brew feature would have been nice.
Occasionally the basket doesn't swing open as it should. 9 times out of 10, it works fine. Every once in awhile you have to give it a nudge. Not a huge deal, but thought I'd mention it.
I still give this 4 stars, because it does function well and nicely designed. If only it had a slow brew option, I'd give it 5 stars. I like my coffee really strong, so this might not be a problem for most people.
Customer Review: Good for a year: UPDATE Summary: 2 Stars
I contacted Brawn. Even though the warranty had just expired, they did honor it and fixed my coffee maker at no charge. Kudos to Braun.
This is the first time I've written a product review. I've found them helpful so I want others to know what I've experienced with our Braun KF590E coffee maker. A week ago I would've given the product 4 or 5 stars. The only problem we had with it at that time was that we had to pour the coffee slowly or coffee would drip on the counter.
Yesterday, 12 days after the warranty expired, our coffee maker went totally dead after making a pot of coffee. The authorized service centers are nowhere near and Braun customer service is closed for the weekend. I hope to get this problem resolved through Braun next week but doubt that I will be able to do so. I would've expected a coffee maker at this price to last more than a year.
