Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Braun Brita Patented KWF2 Water Filter (2-Pack)Customer Review: Works well for me Summary: 4 Stars
There really isn't much to debate with these. They are built into the machine and SHOULD be replaced occasionally. I happen to notice a better taste to the coffee after switching these every few months, but I wouldn't let that be the only factor in your decision to buy. Leaving the same filter in place for a long period of time w/o changing it will most certainly lead to build up of minerals and potentially cause bacterial/fungal accumulation (the filter, unlike the water, does not get sanitized by boiling water). I don't want to make anyone too paranoid, but there are basic biological consequences to leaving pools of water and minerals sitting around too long.
Customer Review: About water filters... Summary: 5 Stars
Now...do we really need them, or have we just become over-hyped about the safety and taste of drinking water? Well, as a true lover of a good cup of coffee, and having the Braun KF600 coffee maker (which uses these), I go ahead replace the filter bi-monthly as prescribed. Hey, it certainly doesn't HURT to remove the chlorine and impurities from your java water!
And if you're going to use them, what better way to buy them then Amazon! As an 'Amazon Prime' member, I simply click and have them at my door step in a couple of days with no shipping costs. You know, it's getting harder and harder to persuade myself to head to a store nowadays.
Customer Review: If you want a good cup of coffee... Summary: 5 Stars
a really good cup of coffee, then you might buy beans whole and grind your own...use a french press...and STILL taste the chlorine unless you use spring water or a filter system. If you spent the money for a Braun maker that uses this filter (brita), then you should use the filters if you buy gourmet whole beans...a small premium for a good cup of coffee (you already paid for premium beans and took the time to grind your own). You save with no french press to clean! Too much trouble, too expensive, and you don't taste the chlorine or minerals in your tap water? Then use tap water in the inexpensive maker of your choice! Caffeine is caffeine in the end!
Customer Review: Awesome product Summary: 4 Stars
Very nice product, works exactly as advertised. We have bought several other Braun coffee makers. The glass carafe's usually did not last long. My wife prefers the metallic carafe and it has kept the coffee warm for upto 6 hours.
My only complaint is about the inclusion of the water filter. We use RO or bottled water and really don't need a filter. However Braun does not make the same model without a filter. The filter is an added cost for those who don't need it. Also, the filter in our case has lasted between 3-4 months and so we have not replaced it every 2 months as the manufacturer suggested.
Customer Review: Charcoal leaks out into the water Summary: 1 Stars
I followed the instructions and soaked them in water for 10 minutes before putting them in the coffee maker and ran a test run, and black specs did come through, so I did it again, and they were still coming through, and I did it 3 more times, and the same. The pack came with 2 cartridges, so I threw out the first one the the same thing happened with the second one! I wonder if the original one that came with the coffee maker did that too and I just didn't notice b/c I was running coffee through the machine and therefore couldn't see the black specs. Gross! I would rather just not use a filter!
