I just got this and used it for the first time yesterday, so though I love it, I can't speak towards it's longevity. I already have a large raclette maker (8 person) which takes too much space on my kitchen table, gets too hot, and is inconvenient to dig out of the cabinet (ok, i'm lazy), and I rarely have 8 people over wanting raclette.
It's a great compact size and can be used for 4 people since each person won't need a slice of cheese melting at all times. The on/off switch is convenient so you don't have to get up and unplug it during the meal if you're still eating, but done with melting raclette, and it heats up quickly too if you change your mind. I wanted the on/off switch since my last raclette maker would boil everyone at the table as though we were sitting next to an open fire, however there was no such problem with the mini raclette. The raclette was melted quickly and perfectly. Also, though the top grill is small, I just put the pot (medium size) of boiled potatoes right on top, and it kept them hot (keep a tiny bit of water in the bottom of the pot).
