Customer Review: Cool Idea, Bad Execution

I loved using these tumblers for the week they survived. Taking tea to my desk without burning my hand was a novelty. But both tumblers cracked after a little over a week of use. I told the company, and they said they would replace them, but I didn't bother when they told me that I shouldn't put the tumblers in the dishwasher. They also said to put ice in them after the beverage, rather than putting ice in first like I always do.
Bodum advertises all of their double-wall glasses as being made from medical grade glass that is used in science labs, and claims it's stronger than traditional "soda-lime" glass. If the glass is so strong, why can't I clean it in the dishwasher or drop some ice cubes in it without it cracking in ten places?
Might want to think twice about these tumblers unless you want to handle your drinkware with kid fingers.

Pros:
- Beautiful to look at, especially when filled
- Don't heat up with hot liquid inside - very comfortable to hold
- Don't leave rings on furniture from condensation
- They become something of a conversation piece with guests!
Cons:
- Fragile and thin (though I have been VERY careful and have not broken one yet)
- Too expensive on Amazon at the current fifteen bucks (my set of two were included FREE with a French Press bought for sixteen bucks on sale at Bed Bath & Beyond). They go on sale on Amazon for closer to ten bucks.
- Double-walled construction makes the sides of the glass a little thick, which may cause 'dribble' issues! ;-)
- These hold just 9 ounces, which is a little small - you might want to consider one of the larger kinds if you like a nice cup of coffee or a full glass of soda

I really love the 8oz Bodum Pavina glasses, but my experience has been that they are quite breakable. I have bought six of these, and three remain after less than a year. (The two espresso cups have faired better (no breaks), but I do use them much less...). One factor to this may be the extreme rigidity of the granite coutertops in my kitchen.
I only wash these by hand, as I do not want the glass hazed by the dishwasher, and one tip is to be very careful to not wash these glasses while holding only from the outside as the lack of a handle makes it easy for a soapy glass to slip from your hands. However, if you put your thumb on the base, and you middle finger inside the glass, they are much easier to securely handle when wet and soapy...
They are quite beautiful and match the Bora Bora tea pot I recently acquired

These glasses are nothing short of stunning. They never cease to amaze guests and make memorable gifts. They are made from relatively thin glass, and appear fragile, but we have 8 and have broken only 1 in a two years of use. The thin wall is part of the functional insulation as it prevents heat transfer. Despite the warnings of fragility, I regularly put these in the dishwasher, although I should note that the single breakage occurred in the dishwashing machine. They look great with tea, particularly the colorful fruit infusions my wife likes. We've given 8 sets away as gifts and they have always been well received. I wouldn't use these with children or bang them around, but otherwise I have found them sturdier than I had assumed from the negative reviews. ...So try this: go pour a cup of hot tea into one of the glasses sitting in your kitchen right now. Wait 5 mins minutes. Try and pick the glass up.
Did that hurt? Hot isn't it!
Now -- buy these glasses and repeat. See the difference? The glass is only a tiny bit warmer than when you picked it up 5 minutes ago - if at all.
I absolutely insist on serving coffee in these glasses whenever we have guests over. Being the simple people that we are, we have simple friends, and everyone who lays their hands on them is fascinated.
Expensive but very, very durable - and dishwasher safe. We've had a couple of drops onto carpet and vinyl flooring with no breakages.
Ours were packed much the same as any other Amazon shipment - and arrived intact.
