Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Pavina 8.5-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Tumber/DOF Glass, Set of 2Customer Review: Innovative, but not as sturdy as it's made out to be. Summary: 5 Stars
I originally ordered 4 Bodum cups, and I was very pleased with them. We wash them in our washing machine (Bosch) and the Bodum logo and number imprinted on the bottom of the cups wore off after each wash. However, the cup itself doesn't have any sort of clouding like most other glass cups.
It's excellent for hot and cold beverages, and it looks cool. There is no need whatsoever for a coaster, unless you spill anything over the sides of the cup.
Unfrotunately, 2 of the cups have died prematurely. One was dropped, and the other shattered when a family member threw a fork into the cup while it was in the sink. Compared to other glass cups, the Bodum cup does NOT take impacts so gracefully, although it also depends on the angle and severity of impact. I once dropped a cup into the sink, and nothing happened.
I just ordered 4 more cups (bringing total to 8), because I use these cups for everything.
Customer Review: Functions well but some quality problems Summary: 2 Stars
Even though this product works great, the edge can break or crack easily. The edge is where the glass doubles back to create the space between the two walls. When you have any liquids in the cup, all that weight is being cantilevered from the outer wall to the inner wall, i.e. suspended. So, if you happen to bump or shake the cup while it is full, that puts a lot of stress on that edge. I've had 1 cup chip. I also bought the water jug but that one just broke when I bumped it against the sink after filling it. Yea, the worst possible scenario. So, if you are willing to pay for the great looks and functionality buy this but do expect that they won't last as other cups that cost less.
The double wall really does insulate the contents, hot or cold. So, your contents last longer and your hand does not get hot or cold. Great for ice cream and tea. Their tea pot is also very good. I haven't broken that one......yet.
Customer Review: too fragile for normal use! Summary: 1 Stars
We got an entire set of these glasses as a gift. On the positive side - it's great to use one set of glasses for both hot and cold drinks. Also, it's nice that you don't need a coaster because the glasses don't sweat. They also look nice.
The negative is a big one. These glasses are VERY fragile. We have a new, high-end dishwasher. We wash these glasses in the upper rack right next to our crystal wine glasses. Not one of the crystal glasses has broken but we've had several of the Bodums break. We don't have kids and we're pretty careful with our things. These just break in the dishwasher. We wrote to Bodum twice to ask if they guarantee their "tough" glasses that they advertise as durable and dishwasher safe, but no answer. Maybe I'll write to them a third time but so far it looks like they don't stand behind their claims. I guess they'd be fine if you want to hand wash them.
Customer Review: A FUN GLASS TO HAVE Summary: 5 Stars
I rarely see so many reviews in one item group. This one has come up almost 400. So, what's the point writing another one? It will be just buried in the big pile of opinions.
Well, I write it because this item is a challenge for me and some other people I'd like them to have it after knowing so many people are frustrating about breaking the glass. I'm a member of AARP and getting older everyday. My hands and brain coordination may not be as good as I was young. With this FRAGILE, BEAUTIFUL, and USEFUL glass, I want to gauge how long I can have them before I break them all. I bought 8 in this order. I'll get some of this tumbler as gift to my daughter and my friend's kids as gift. They are in great college and graduate study, Harvard & PHD program. So, it is a game between an old man and young bright persons. It is fun, isn't it?

Customer Review: Bodum Pavina Double-Wall Thermo Glasses Summary: 5 Stars
I was searching for small, non-clunky, tempered glass cups with handles, without much luck, when I stumbled onto Amazon's write-up for the Bodum glasses. No handles are necessary with these, because of the double-wall insulation. I love the look and feel of these glasses, and they were a hit at my annual "Make Valentines While Wearing Red, Eating Chocolate, and Drinking Glogg" Party. The gorgeous color of the hot, spiced vodka/wine beverage with the slivered almonds and golden raisins at the bottom was set off beautifully in the Bodum glasses. I recollect reading other reviewers' comments about the fragility of the glasses in the dishwasher, but since I don't own a dishwasher, I cannot comment regarding how well they do in one. Handled with a modicum of care and not put into the hands of kids playing leap frog or adults slam dancing, I think they are worth owning.
