Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Osiris Stovetop TeakettleCustomer Review: Versatile and handsome Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this one not only for the style, but also for the handsome design. It is incredibly unique, so I'm happy to keep it on display on my stove all the time! (my hubby is picky about design, so it's nice to have a "handsome" teapot instead of the standard ones with more feminine, curvy designs). I purchased it b/c I wanted to replace my old, cheap kettle that didn't have a whistle, which is kind of crazy since this one doesn't whistle, either. BUT, it does have a VERY large opening in the top, so I just bought a two dollar glass pot watcher (it's a little glass disc that plops into a pot/ kettle of water and makes a gentle rattle when the water boils). This has worked out even better than having a whistle since this way I can make tea and not have to worry about the whistle waking up my sleeping baby or interrupting quiet study nights with friends. The large hole in the top also makes it VERY easy to clean, which is nice since my water is hard and tends to create build-up after a while. The description doesn't lie--this boils water very quickly! The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is b/c the handle, although "heat safe" still transfers a considerable amount of heat while boiling. Although I can still pick it up with my bare hands, it's not as cool to the touch as I expected. All in all, I love this kettle!
Description of Bodum Osiris Stovetop TeakettleHeat water up to 50% faster than traditional tea kettles with the Osiris stovetop water kettle. The specially designed base is built to focus the heat and assist in boiling water faster. The Osiris water kettle is a true example of combining design with functionality. The modern cylindrical design on this compact little teakettle makes it look like a museum piece?and, well it might be, as it was created for New York?s Museum of Modern Art shop by designed Carsten Jorgensen. However, this kettle?s form also has a function: its slightly wider base directs heat upward so water boils 50 percent faster than in other teakettles. In fact, it takes only 8 minutes to boil about 2 pints of water, although the Osiris can hold a maximum capacity of 64 ounces or 2 quarts. The Osiris is made of brilliantly polished stainless steel, which matches any kitchen décor. The pot has a lift-off lid on top for refilling with water and a stay-cool handle for safe lifting from the stove. The triangular-shaped spout doesn?t have a whistle to alert you when water is boiling so it?s advised to stick close by when this teakettle is on the stove. --Cristina Vaamonde
