Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord Coffee PressCustomer Review: Works great - 6 months and still brewing Summary: 5 Stars
I love my coffee press. I've really enjoyed brewing from this french press. I used to use only drip coffee, but now I am primarily a french press drinker. It gives a different flavor and is better with darker, bolder coffees.
Before I purchased, I read a number of reviews that claimed these are fragile. I completely disagree with those reviews. I use a metal spoon to stir my coffee which Bodum even says not to and I have not had any problems. I am careful with it and it has never given me any problems. I can only imagine that the reviewers who said it shattered treated it very roughly. Guess what, it's glass; if you smash it off something, it might break. I still recommend glass as it looks nice and I prefer not to drink hot liquids that have been sitting in plastic.
I also bought a Capresso 565 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Stainless Steel to grind my coffee fresh and I recommend checking out this or other conical burr grinders if you are serious about your coffee.
Customer Review: Pretty sweet, actually. Summary: 5 Stars
I was tired of my icky looking, stained plastic electric coffee pot. Running my water through a plastic system and then straining it through paper that's been who knows where during production was hardly appealing. Discoloration, residue, and build up clogged it all over in hard to clean areas. In short: I wanted a replacement really badly.
This press is easy to prepare and clean, your water brews in glass and only touches plastic briefly as it's poured (although it would be possible to lift the lid a little and pour and avoid it completely.) The best part, of course, is that it produces a very tasty cup of coffee. Following the directions to get the coffee to water ratio right, I made the best cup of coffee brewed at home that I've ever had, hands down. It even tops the monster 600$+ self-grinding/individual cup brewing contraption that my parents use by far. Pleasantly strong, but with no bitterness.
I absolutely prefer the cleanliness of a French press and the taste of the coffee to any traditional coffee pot method and would recommend this press to anyone.
Customer Review: Outstanding coffee -- even for Seattle! Summary: 5 Stars
You may know that we Seattle residents are mad for coffee. We love it and are very selective about quality. And quite simply, the quality of coffee that comes out of this simple device is wonderful. I never, ever use my drip coffee machine anymore. And I rarely bother stopping by any of the more than 20 espresso shops that are within walking distance of my home. There's no point, because this coffee press makes coffee that simply tastes great. The press is very easy to use, and there's nothing complex or even very clever about it. It takes under 1 minute to clean it off and fill it up, then 4 to 5 minutes before the coffee is ready to drink. Bear in mind there is no feature for keeping the coffee warm; you need to serve it all within a few minutes, or expect to re-heat it in the microwave. It cleans up very quickly in either the dishwasher or the sink. And replacements are available if you happen to break the glass part. Unless you own a fancy espresso machine (not the cheap basic kind), you simply won't find a better cup of coffee at home -- or indeed, at many restaurants. Yum.
Customer Review: For the Coffee Lover Summary: 5 Stars
The Bodum French Press makes by far the best cup of coffee I have ever tasted. I added this little gem to my wish list after reading all the other rave reviews. I received it for a Christmas present and was not disappointed.
The coffee comes out stronger than what you would make in your normal coffee maker, but somehow smoother. The coffee has almost a creamy texture.
This French Press, depending how many grounds you use, only makes about four to five Cups (about three mugs full). At first this was a drag to me, because both my husband and I like to have two cups of coffee in the morning. However, I find because the coffee is so much richer, I can only drink about a mug full. My husband feels the same way.
As far as convenience and ease of use, I have no complaints. After heating the water it takes four minutes to brew. The few extra minutes it takes to use this press are well rewarded by the flavor of the coffee. Once you have a cup of the French Press coffee, it is hard to go back to the flavorless drip maker.
Customer Review: Why Use Drip Machines? Summary: 5 Stars
My good previous experiences with Bodum products led me to buy my first coffee press from their company.
After using this, I cannot imagine owning another coffee machine for the rest of my life. The simplicity, speed, and quality of drink when using a coffee press is a rare pleasure in my early morning routine.
I can say definitively that I will never go back to the big, clunky, and expensive drip coffee machines I'm used to using. The coffee press is also a huge space saver in the kitchen - I store mine with my glassware.
The cleaning of the Bodum coffee press is as quick and easy as making coffee in it. Everything is completely detachable and dishwasher safe, though I recommend hand-washing. All of the metal pieces of the press itself are detachable and easily cleaned.
The only thing I didn't love about the press is the thin metal mesh that can come apart somewhat easily during cleaning. I have to say, though, that this easily replaceable part ($3.50 on Amazon) lasted my three months, so it is not a problem.
