Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord Coffee PressCustomer Review: Good looking, works great, easy to clean Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second Bodum French Press. The first, Bodum 1548-01US Brazil 8-Cup (34-Ounce) Coffee Press worked great but I needed a second for my work. This one is much more elegant, and equally if not more functional. The lid spins to allow you to open/close for pouring. I keep it closed right after I pour hot water in to help "seal in" the flavor & keep it a little warmer (it isn't airtight or anything, and it might not actually help, but it is nice anyway!). The glass comes out of the metal casing so you can wash it easily. The size is ideal if you drink a good amount of coffee and it also helps if you need to make coffee for more than 1 person. As I don't use any other coffee maker, it is ideal for me.
With both Bodum presses, the best part is how easy they are to clean. For regular use, I just rinse out the filter without taking it apart, and of course the glass body is easy to clean as well. With French press you should use coarse ground coffee, but once I was given fine ground coffee as a gift. It is easy to clean either way, and very quick-- especially if you are "pressed" for time. The mesh press unscrews into a few pieces that are easily rinsed to get rid of any grounds stuck inside, and it takes just a second to reassemble.
Overall, if you are looking for an elegant french press, look no further. If you want to save money, get the other Bodum. I also recommend getting a simple coffee grinder (Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Grinder with Chamber Maid Cleaning System, Black) to get fresher coffee every time.
Customer Review: Don't Be Scared!! Summary: 5 Stars
After reading up on French Presses online, I was a little scared to try one. I had read horror stories of presses spewing boiling coffee, exploding on contact, sludge and crunchy grounds in your coffee, and lots of work to even use the thing. I decided to try one out anyway, so I picked up the Bodum Chambord 8 c Press. After using it the first time, all my fears completely disappeared. I had absolutely no problems! I followed the directions exactly as they were written, except I used 3 Tbsp of coffee grounds for 6 oz. coffee. (I need a strong coffee for making my lattes.) I ground the beans in my mill for just about 5 seconds or a little less. At first I was afraid it was too fine, but 4 minutes later I poured out of my press the most wonderful coffee I have ever had! Rivaled only by a coffee shop. There were no grounds in my coffee and, no, my press didn't explode. I will never ever go back to drip! I can now produce the greatest lattes ever! I truly don't understand the people who claim this to be a lot of work. I found there to be no more time involved in using the French Press than using a drip machine. It is very simple and the results in taste are one hundred times better. I pour the coffee from my press directly into a little thermos mug to keep it nice and hot till I add my hot milk. I have absolutely no complaints. As another reviewer said, I am just sad it took me so long to buy a press! So if you are a little frightened to try a press like I was, don't be! I am definitely no barista and it worked perfectly for me. UPDATE : I now have discovered the wonders of the AeroPress. I loved my French Press, but the AeroPress is even better.
Customer Review: Best Coffee Ever Summary: 5 Stars
I was at a restaurant in North Carolina that served me a coffee, which used this coffee press. I had never even seen one before and I am a coffee enthusiast. The waiter said just push down on the handle and the fresh coffee is filtered. Well, I got back to my hotel room, got online, and ordered two. When my wife and I received them, she could hardly wait to taste the freshness I had described. We used our regular store bought coffee grounds and followed the directions. It is fast and easy to use and the coffee is the best we have ever had. Depending on how strong we like it, we just add more grounds or let it sit longer before we press down on the filter.
The construction of this French press is fantastic. Stainless steel and glass with a very sturdy handle make it worth the price. I gave one to my sister and mother for Christmas and they are very happy with the results of the taste and quality of this product.
It is easy to clean and works every time. I would caution those who want to disregard the direction and use a metal spoon to stir the coffee. This could break the glass. It suggests using a wooded spoon to prevent cracking the glass.
Just add coffee, put in hot water to the top metal ring, stir with wooden spoon, let it sit for a few minutes to brew, and then push down the plunger, which filters the grounds out but keeps the real flavor and oils of the coffee in. We now use our filter coffee maker for just heating up the water. No reason to use the old coffee maker if it is not going to provide us with the taste we have always been missing.

Customer Review: Definitely different... Summary: 4 Stars
It would be rather redundant, but for first time buyers, I'll throw out what I think of this particular press and coffee made by this press.
It's definitely a different way to make coffee. Instead of a drip machine where water is filtered through coffee grounds, a coffee press mixes water with the grinds, then filters the mixture.
Does it live up to the hype?
I can't say for sure why this press is "only for coffee lovers." I love my coffee, but there are some drawbacks to using this coffee press... which might be applicable to any other presses. The most annoying by far is that it doesn't filter everything when you press the coffee-water mixture. It could be the fault that I'm using a Mr. Coffee grinder, or it could just be that the strainer isn't perfect. Regardless, I never finish what's at the bottom of my cup anymore, as it always remains a (fine) grainy sludge.
If you can look pass that, this makes for a very nice coffee press. It's well-made, simple, and very easy to use. It's easy to wash too (by hand)... just dump the grinds and wash the strainer and container with soap and water. The coffee it makes is by far, for lack of better words, richer than what a drip machine can provide. It's great for singles who like to have a thermos of rich coffee on-the-go. Once you do some experimentation to taste and figure out your own routine, making coffee in this way can be rewarding and even faster, if not on par, than a drip machine.
Note: Keep in mind that a cup of coffee is literally a measured cup... not equal to the gigantic mugs that we all know and love to use.
Customer Review: Nicely Built But Far Smaller Than I Expected Summary: 3 Stars
PLEASE NOTE: If it wasn't for the misleading size this would get four stars.
I bought this for my sister who shares a love of coffee with me. It will be
her first french press and I wanted something special that she could also use
with guests.
Shipping and packaging by Amazon was excellent as usual. I opened the box to
make sure there were no defects or damages. Everything was pristine but while
the quality of the Bodum components are very good, I was disappointed with the
size. I was expecting a 32 OZ glass container as stated as one of the top
features. This is NOT 32 OZ.
I compared it to the press I own and use every day and the sizes are nearly
identical. My press barely make three big cups of coffee (where each cup is
about the size of an average travel tumbler) when filled to the top.
This unit will barely make more than my current press -- definitely not
four cups worth.
Another reviewer mentioned the same concern about the size and I'm surprised
it hasn't come up more in the comments. As I said before, this is a gift for
my sister to use during the week as well as for guests. She can still use it
for guests but it will have to be done in two or more batches.
GOOD
Very well made. The glass is thick and solid. The overall unit feels
solid and durable while nicely designed.
NOT SO GOOD
Be warned this WILL NOT brew 32 OZ as stated prominently in the features.
