When my daughter told me she was in the market for a Fench Press coffee maker, my reaction was HUH? I had never heard on it. She said A French Press was the only was to make coffee. I took her word for it and ordered two Bodum 12 ounce presses, one for her and one for me.
When the shipment came we quickly open the package and made coffee! What a treat. THe Bodum is exactly as advertised. In less than ten minutes (heating water and brewing) it makes a strong flaverful cup of coffee. IT is simple to use and very easy to clean.
The 12 ounce maker is the perfict size of one mug of coffee.
Highly recommended!

While coffee tasted fresh, it was very difficult to measure strength of coffee. The "3-cup" measure is misleading because US machines count 6oz of liquid per cup whereas this unit counts 4oz per cup. Thus, by US standards, you are getting 2 cups. Also, I did not know until opening the package that you can ONLY use course grinds. This is inconvenient and not part of my habit. I would prefer to return this now useless product. Making gourmet coffee at work shouldn't be a hassle. I'm not changing my habits for the Bodum. Instead, I purchased a travel mug and make my own coffee for the commute to work. The gadget is more suitable to my lifestyle.Customer Review: A deliciously easy way to make coffee

I had always wondered what the coffee tasted like from the French press brew method, and finally tried some at a luncheon. I love the full, fresh-ground coffee taste that you get with this method of brewing, and I love the pretty and sturdy design of this petite brewer. I'm going to order more of these, so I can serve one to a person at dinner. I've used mine many times since I received it, and love this method of brewing. An added benefit will be if the power fails (once in a while here), all I have to do is heat water on my woodstove or campburner and I'll still have coffee! I understand the caution against fine ground coffee in this device. I have been impatient and caused a mess on the counter enough times to be wary. But I want real robust coffee flavor and I am wiling to put up with sediment at the bottom of my cup. So I finely grind my (home roasted) beans. I wait about 2 or 3 minutes and then I carefully and slowly plunge. I also pour slowly and don't pour past 90 degrees to get minimal grounds in my coffee. Using this method, I sometimes get a floating tiny piece of coffee but that's it an the flavor is very rich. At the bottom of my mug there will be sediment. That's the price. I was looking for a quality classic french press to make a little tasty coffee in the morning; I was thinking 2 large cups so I went with this size. Although the press does work very well, I was pretty disappointed when I opened the package and realized how small the thing is. When they say 3 cups, they are talking about those tiny traditional European coffee cups-- only one solid mug-ful for me. Overall, I definitely recommend the Bodum Chambord press but I would strongly encourage you to go up a size or 2 if you really are looking to get 2 or 3 cups out of it, or else you'll just have to redo the pressing process to make each serving.
