Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord 3 cup French Press Coffee Maker, 12 oz., ChromeCustomer Review: A superb cup of coffee Summary: 5 Stars
I'm quite the lover of good coffee, and I hadn't ever owned a coffee press until buying this particular item. The use of it is simple. I keep coarsely ground coffee in a tupperware in the fridge at work. I pour two scoops into the bottom, pour hot water on top, and push the press down. Ten minutes later, out comes terrific pressed coffee. The flavor is different than traditional drip-and-filter coffee makers, but difficult to describe; subtle and yet more full-bodied. It really is a terrific cup of coffee. Note, that it is a single standard-mug sized cup of coffee. The "3-cup" title is ... misleading at best. However, it is really convenient to not have to brew an entire pot of coffee, and it is also very convenient to have a press for brewing a cup at work. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Great coffee at home! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I love the Bodum coffee press. It's hard to explain how much better coffee is when brewed this way---let's just say it matches the best restaurant coffee we've ever had. Much to our surprise we almost never buy coffee when we're out now, although we used to do it quite often. Our coffee, made at home with the Bodum press , is so much better than what we were buying that we just don't want their coffee anymore. Looks like we're going to save some money as well as having better coffee. One word of advice---make sure the 3 cup size is what you really need. It makes just enough coffee to fill one of our medium sized mugs. That's fine for us since one of us wants decaf and the other doesn't. You'll want a larger size if you were thinking to fill 3 typical coffee mugs from it.
Customer Review: Great for Camping Summary: 5 Stars
Although I most often use an electric coffee pot (Cuisinart) at home, I've found the Chambord pot is great for camping - yes camping. I personally find the cleaning of the Chambord press a little bothersome - we have old plumbing and the grounds do not go through. That said, it makes superior coffee and is worth the slight extra trouble. We've been taking our Chambord camping for quite a few years. Pack it carefully and you can have great coffee in your campsite too. Friends snickered at first, but it beats boiled camp coffee hands down. It also came in very handy during a major California earthquake when we were without electric power for three days. An attractive, retro looking pot - very charming. If you are a coffee lover you need a french press and this is the one.
Customer Review: a "cup" here equal 4 ounces Summary: 4 Stars
The person who chastised everyone's reading skills below, insisting that this is a "3-STEP (as in add grounds, add water, press) not 3-CUP" press, is incorrect, and apparently did not her/himself read the title (which does indeed say "3-CUP", NOT "3-STEP). It IS a "3-cup" press -- however, if you look around at the descriptions of various french presses found here, you will find that they all define a "cup" as 4 ounces. So, no, this 3-cup press, which is 12 ounces, is not going to brew enough coffee for 3 *mugs*. (And the 8-cup presses, which are 32 ounces, are not going to brew enough for 8 mugs.) The ones referred to as "3-cup" will brew about roughly mug's worth of coffee. This particular press is at least as good as any other I've used, which is to say very good!
Customer Review: Coffee for one.. or two small children. Summary: 4 Stars
I was surprised, similarly to some lady friends of mine, by the small size of it. I typically drink a lot of coffee.. i.e.. I order a "large" at Starbucks (d-bags order ventis). I considered sending it back or selling it at first, thinking it would not make enough coffee, but am glad I kept it. It fills up, exactly, the 'to-go' coffee cup I've just bought (a standardish one from Starbucks). I've come to the conclusion that two batches from this thing during my 12 hour shift, is just about right. Also.. from a fit and finish point of view.. it's nice, good materials, handsome. And not girlish at all, as I thought it might be from the pictures. I wouldn't want the cheaper plastic models that this company makes. It would get 4 1/2 stars if it was 25% bigger.
