Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord 3 cup French Press Coffee Maker, 12 oz., Chrome

Customer Review: Beautiful French Press 3 Stars

This is a beautiful and elegant french press but since it only brews 12 ounces is more appropriate as a single cup (Americans like their coffee mugs) unit. The unit is described as three cups, but that is 4 ounces each such as an espresso shot or a demitasse portion.
Frankly I picked up a 30 ounces french press from the same company at my local Starbucks and it's great for those two mugs of fresh brewed coffee in the morning for my hubby and I. And it costs less than the Chambord but has a plastic holder and lid. The "guts" are still the same. So for everyday use or when we go camping, that will be the unit.
The Chambord will be used to single servings such as in my home office or a mid day coffee break.
As usual, Amazon processed the order and it was delivered quickly. No complaints on their customer service! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Customer Review: Coffee Lover's Best Friend
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this coffee press to take with me to college. It's a great space-saver and doesn't require a ton of cleaning. You get a lot more flavor out of this press than you do with regular drips. I prefer a medium French roasted arabica (kona's one of my favorites), mostly because the super dark roasts tend to lose the regional flavors of the beans. It makes a perfect single-person serving of the silkiest, most flavorful home-brewed coffee you will ever taste. As with all coffee, you get better results with fresh-roasted and ground beans--especially if you invest in a good quality coffee grinder. But even without the hundreds of dollars of equipment needed to achieve a good grind, this twenty dollar gadget makes an awesome cup of coffee. You might want to shop around a little more, though. I've seen it sell for 10-15$ at various coffee shops.

Customer Review: single cup of perfect coffee
Summary: 4 Stars

... and that's exactly what you'll get. A French press is arguably the best cup of coffee around, and that's what you'll get. It will just be very small. I bought it after not looking closely enough at the description -- I wanted a 12 CUP press, so this just wasn't the one to replace the drip coffee maker we use every morning here. We debated sending it back, and finally decided against it.

So I brought it to work, and it's perfect there. It fits into a small corner, and makes only as much coffee as I can take away with me, leaving very little mess behind. It comes with its own scoop, which is convenient, though I like rather a bit more grounds than they suggest. Eh. It's still a lovely cup that comes out well enough that I don't need to put cream into it.

And yes, it does make a fine cup of tea as well.

Customer Review: Tea Presser?
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the Bodum Coffee Press for my father for Christmas. He's a tea fanatic and I heard that it was good for brewing loose tea as well as coffee. My father loves it as much as he loves his old tea pots. The only problem i see is that the coffee press doesn't maintain heat as well as his ceramic tea pot...but this product wasn't meant to do that so its not a fault of the product.

**on a side note, i tried using the coffee press with actual coffee grinds. It was good and my coffee tasted wonderful and really full body. But when it came to clean up, at the edges where the metal presser and the metal filter meet, coffee grinds tend to get stuck in there. I don't know if its b/c my coffee grinder grinds the beans to fine or if its just the product itself, but i can't seem to get all the grinds out ever.

Customer Review: Three cups? More like one...
Summary: 2 Stars

Bought this quickly without reading product information carefully. If I had, I would have seen that this makes 12 ounces of coffee. I am not sure by whose standards that equals three cups... perhaps in Munchkinland... Here on Planet Earth, it comes out to about 1 and a half small sized mugs. So, if that's the amount you're looking for, this is for you. If you, as I was, are looking for something compact that will give you 3 decent sized cups of coffee in the a.m., keep looking. (Hint: pour 12 ounces of water into a measuring cup to get an idea of how much coffee this press can make).

Aside from these problems (which shaky wording of product title aside, are due to my own carelessness) the thing seems well made. Still, price seems high for something so small and dainty. Coffee made in press was fine.
