Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord 3 cup French Press Coffee Maker, 12 oz., Chrome

Customer Review: Worth the extra work
Summary: 5 Stars

Coffee presses work pretty much the same way. I like Bodum presses because they have yet to let me down. If you're going to get one (and you should)spurge a little and get a nice one. You will be happier that you did. My first was a plastic one and the plastic would expand and contract when I poured in hot liquid which made the thing feel unsturdy--even though it wasn't. Then I got this one and it's great for just $30. Even if you REALLY spurge and get a $60 press, the glass beakers are replaceable should you ever break yours. So why a press? It is a lot more work...you have to boil water, steep, press, then dump out used grinds and wash your press right after each use. But coffee presses allow the natural coffee bean oils, which are extremely aromatic, to stay in the coffee...and not get wicked away by the paper liners/filters. Your coffee is richer and more flavorful. Who wouldn't want that?

Customer Review: Makes great coffee
Summary: 5 Stars

This coffee press is really nice for those of us that like espresso drinks but don't like paying $3.50 for a latte. You can vary the strength of your coffee and there's no danger of your espresso machine blowing up on you. You do have to be careful when you start pushing the press down, or else super-hot coffee will shoot out of the carafe.
The press is easy to use and requires minimal cleanup. The instructions want you to take apart the filter each time, but if you rinse it under some water and get the grounds out you should be OK. It also includes a scoop for the coffee.
The press is a little bit more time-consuming that going to the local Starbucks. For decent coffee, you need to wait about four minutes for it to brew. You will also need a plastic spoon to stir the water/coffee solution.
All in all, it's a lot of fun and roughly the same amount of work as a regular drip machine.

Customer Review: Small but handy
Summary: 5 Stars

As has been noted by several reviewers, this coffee press is pretty tiny. However, I use it to make espresso without a big expensive machine or having to fuss with an aluminum stove-top espresso pot- not 100% authentic, but still pretty good. (the "three cups" refers to a standard espresso cup serving size, which is between 1 and 2 oz.)

This thing may be small, but it works as well as any Bodum press (very high quality and replacement parts are readily available and inexpensive); it fits in my (law student) budget and the minimal amount of counter space in my apartment, and, beyond espresso-making, it's good for individual use for someone who's fussy about how fresh their coffee is. Rather than making a big pot of coffee that goes cold or has to be kept heated on an element while the taste gets worse and worse, you can make one cup at a time that is fresh every time.

Customer Review: Coffee better than from your neighborhood coffeehouse
Summary: 5 Stars

With a stellar rating this BFP (bodum french press) already has, my review is superfluous. But as an avid coffee drinker of 10 years, and having used BFP for last 3 years, 3-5X/wk, I felt compelled to give a shoutout to my BFF, BFP. Within 3-5 minutes it makes the smoothest, most flavorful, and most delicious black coffee (I'm a minimalist). EVAR. Plus, it does it in style. If there are 2 or more people in your living quarters I would recommend a larger size, as this BFP makes 1 large cup of black coffee (or 2 small cups). Bodum is an excellent brand and the instruction insert is crystal clear -- even a monkey can learn how to use it.

One con: the glass beaker is not very sturdy when subjected to physical insult. I broke the glass beaker once when it fell 10 inches onto the countertop, but the replacement beaker has been going strong for the last 2 years.

Customer Review: I didn't get to use the product, because when it arrived broken.
Summary: 3 Stars

I was told the Bodum is a premium brand for manufacturing coffee presses. I placed an order for a 3-cup french press as a gift for two friends. They are a married couple and tired of drinking commercial instant coffee. The photo presented on Amazon looked like a 3-cup one is big enough for two people to use at the same time. Thus I recommended and bought a 3-cup coffee press for them.

However, after the deliver guy left, I opened the package box to find the glass of the press already broken. And the size looks kind of small for two people, especially when I am going to give it as a gift. So I returned the 3-cup press and ordered a 4-cup one from Amazon. The money was returned to my account promptly. I was impressed by how convenient and efficient to return a product on Amazon. My friends like the 4-cup french press very much and are using it frequently.
