Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Chambord 3 cup French Press Coffee Maker, 12 oz., ChromeCustomer Review: The best Summary: 5 Stars
There is no better way to make coffee. There are different ways, maybe as good in their own right, but none better. This brings out not only the flavor of the brew, but also that silky something that comes from the fines suspended in your drink. You won't even notice the near-colloidal traces of solids until you go to another cup and find them missing - what a paltry, spineless experience, by comparison.
Despite its virtues, this tool does have flaws. The glass flask is subject to breakage - but I understand that the "shatterproof" version has its own failure modes, and the glass part can be replaced. Clean freaks won't be wholly happy with the filter assembly, unless they take it apart and have an ultrasonic cleaner at hand. (Reassembly offers its own challenges.) And that metal mesh has a finite lifetime - but can be replaced, too. Every tool that gets serious use needs maintenance, so I can't object too strongly.
Not when this makes the best coffee on earth. Given that, I can accept an awful lot in the directions that matter less.

BTW: "3 Cups" means 3 servings, where one serving is about a half-cup (100ml). That's not 3 measuring cups (250ml each, 750ml total). I use this as a single-serving tool for a serving 2-3x what Bodum seems to expect, i.e. a normal American-sized coffee cup.
Customer Review: The best coffee this side of espresso Summary: 5 Stars
Even if you find an espresso machine alluring, in the meantime, you can't beat coffee made with this elegant and perfectly functional press pot. It's simply the easiest and best way to extract maximum flavor from your finest beans (use a uniform grind slightly coarser than automatic drip). Some people even prefer it to espresso. It's durable, easy to clean, and doesn't require electricity.
One reviewer claimed they put the grounds and the water in the pot, immediately pushed the plunger and waited 10 minutes. However, they will get much better results if they wait 2-4 minutes (depending upon the coarseness of the grind) before plunging the coffee, and then drink it right away. I wouldn't even let the coffee rest, plunged, in the pot for ten minutes, as it will become over-extracted.
As for the reviewer that whined about truth in advertising, all I can say is "Duh". They themselves pointed out that the pot does make three espresso cups' worth of brew. And if they watch what they are doing next time, instead of just trying to pour 12 oz. of hot water into something, they can avoid future unpleasant experiences. I actually make coffee for two "cappuccinos" with this model. If you don't like your coffee as strong, you can simply add a little hot water to your cup after you have poured your coffee (like an Americano).
Customer Review: Well-designed, well-made product Summary: 5 Stars
I tried a coffee press several years ago and gave it up because the taste was too harsh and there was too much sludge on the bottom. The Bodum press eliminates both problems. The metal screen assembly is very tight and fits the glass perfectly, resulting in almost no sludge and a balanced taste. The pot is also visually attractive, looks good on the countertop.
I had trouble figuring out how much any coffee press actually holds; press makers use the term "cup" very loosely. So here's the specs on this "3-cup" pot: If you fill the pot to the brim with water, you've got about 16 fluid ounces (2 cups). Allowing for the volume of coffee grounds, and the fact that you can't press with the pot filled to the brim, it will yield about 12 fluid ounces of drinkable coffee (1.5 cups)or a single coffee mug.
If you're new to using a press pot, note that you must use coarse-ground coffee for best results. Which in turn means that you need a coffee grinder that can produce a coarse grind. The typical $20 grinder can't do this. If you try grinding for just a few seconds, you'll get a mixture of ground coffee and almost-whole beans. If you find you like the taste of pressed coffee, be prepared to spend at least $100 on a good grinder.
Customer Review: Coffee Richness for One Summary: 5 Stars
The richness of press coffee is in the thickness. That's right, coffee
made with a coffee press is fuller in body that coffee made
with a filter drip system. The extra body comes from the
tiny particles of solid coffee that pass through the press'
screen and remain behind in your cup. You can see some
evidence of them in the sludge that may settle out in your
cup.
This richer mouth-feel makes for a more luxurious experience
of coffee drinking. The first time I had coffee from one of the
these, I put my automatic drip pot away for good. It's true that
you have to actually boil the water and then pour it over the
grounds, but if you're enough of a grown-up to drink coffee
I think you'll be able to handle it.
I have seen several other makes of coffee press and bodum is
by far the most satisfying to use. This little model is good for the
midday cup in the office if you want something more than the
office coffee machine has to offer. It could change the way you
feel about work. . . .

Customer Review: Do you want a great cup of coffee? Summary: 5 Stars
I also watched the History Channel's coffee presentation and made a mental note to try a french press. I recieved my press and immediately put it to use (after washing it) and ended up with 1/2 of a mugful in my favorite cup. Did it matter? No. The coffee was frothy and full of flavor without any hint of bitterness. Even with this small amount, I could wash the press and begin another brewing another 1/2 cup while drinking the first mug. I fear that I will begin to become a coffee addict (again) but without the high prices that accompany a fine cup o'joe at nearby coffee bar. After only a few brewings this press will have paid for itself and will continue to be cost effective.
I have come to see the size as an advantage rather than a problem. If I had a press that was three times as big I would drink three times as much in the same amount of time. This press keeps me moderated in my consumption without any real effort. The size of the servings also lend itself to making an au lait without any problem. I plan on getting my wife hooked onto the superior coffee taste from this press as soon as she gets home.
