Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum Canteen 6-Ounce (0.18-Liter) Double Wall Glass Thermal Tea Infuser Set

Customer Review: Easy to use, fairly attractive
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am used to using a two-person tea-pot with infuser basket. The negative with that was always the large amount of tea that needed to be added. This is just the right size for a single cup of tea (I disagree with others that want a big size - to avoid the tea sitting and bitter tannins, this is preferable). Great tasting tea!

Pros: Hand-blown glass - nice, small slits filter all but finest debris, attractive, good sized reservoir handles larger loose leaf teas without crushing them into small bits and allowing leaves to float freely (oolong worked great), perfect for whole leaf teas, easy to clean

Cons: Poorly fitting lid (very loose), lid awkward as coaster (infuser bottom seems narrow and top heavy sitting on coaster), too much heat transference to outer glass for my taste, price point too high for product, may not work for finely ground loose leaf teas (e.g. like dried mint)

Customer Review: Anxiety Provoking Tea Experience
Summary: 3 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm a huge fan of Bodum, as has been stated with reviews for other products of theirs. And while I'm perfectly satisfied with this Tea Infuser set, its very nature works against the benefits of the tea.

Lovely in design and generally functional, this clear glass set lives up to promises of keeping one's hands cool and doing an excellent job of diffusing tea.

However, the thin glass is a constant source of paranoia for me. Every time I've set it on my granite counter top the 'clink' makes me think it will simply shatter with impact. It hasn't, thankfully, but all the same it oddly provokes a hovering anxiety. This being said, it works against the soothing experience of tea drinking.

Small size isn't a problem for me, nor are loose tea particles, however if I'm going to slog around a cup of brew I don't want to think more about the container than the contents.

Customer Review: Pretty and delicate, but small!

Six ounces is not a lot of tea. That is my main complaint about this tea infuser. My second complaint is that NOWHERE on or in the box does it say that this item is dishwasher safe. Although it is made with laboratory glass, it seems quite fine and fragile - candidate for hand-washing. And then, the price. For ONE LITTLE TEENY TEACUP? Who drinks only 6 ounces of tea at a time? I won't be using this on a daily basis as it is too impractical

On the positive side, it's very pretty, and a nice way to serve tea to a guest. The tea leaves unfurl in the hot water and you can see exactly how strong it is just by looking. The insulated glass makes it cool to the touch so anyone, even a man with big fingers who hates those tiny handles on a teacup, can enjoy. Now if that same big guy wants a big swig of tea, sorry. All he gets from this one are six little ounces.

Customer Review: Perfectly Designed

I've been on a tea kick lately. I use tea bags, but I have wanted to try loose tea, so I've checked out different kinds of teapots or strainers or balls, so that I could give it a try.

This product is awesome.

The box tells you just how to use it: Put the strainer cup in (a close fit to the outer cup) with your tea (loose or bag). Pour hot water in, and then cover with the lid. When I steep tea in a mug, I always use a saucer or something to keep the heat in.

The lid, and the lip around it which allows it to fit tightly and then hold the strainer cup with no leaks is what makes this the perfect product.

I wondered about using the insulated cup and drinking without a handle. The cup is warm, but not too hot to hold, and no handle is fine.

Customer Review: 3 stars for the double wall design minus 2 stars for filter slits

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Bodum Canteen 6 ounce is nice in that it is glass and double walled so no metal to contaminate tea flavor and no burned fingers but the filtering mechanism consists of slits studded around the lower sides of the base of the inner cup that are large enough to allow some tea leaf particles to escape. Some reviewers didn't mention this so perhaps the clarity of the steeped tea depends on the type of loose tea leaves one buys. Also, it makes about one china teacup of tea - OK if you are a china teacup tea sipper but if you want a big mug of tea you will need to perform the steeping procedure twice. This would be nice for loose tea enthusiasts at work who wish to dispense with an extra mug/teacup as you can drink the tea from the outer double walled glass collector.
