This electric kettle is an immersion heater in a plastic jug (with a secure top lid). I bought it recently from Amazon. It is tiny, just exactly what I'm looking for. It boils 0.7 litre in about 4 mins. Small and light, the shape is rectangular/cylindrical (not circular), so easy to carry in backpack. Its boiling capacity is ideal for Thermos/Nissan type stainless steel (bullet) container of 0.7 litre.My main use is to boil water during travel for hot tea or (instant) coffee. It is esp. suited for trips overseas. Of course, why bother boiling water and making coffee when there are many stores and shops in U.S. selling coffee 24/7. But all across Europe, they drink thick coffee in tiny cups with a hefty price per serving. Mini stores are scarce and close early. Warning though. This kettle works only in U.S. (120V, 1050 watts). So get yourself a 240 to 120 voltage converter. Try Franzus. They make (transistor) switching converters. Very light and small, some models up to 2000W. (Don't buy those old bulky, heavy transformer type converters.)
Btw, someone else recommended buying an immersion heater for heating water. Yes, it is small and easy to carry, but I don't recommend it. First, DON'T ever buy two (120V) heaters and use them in series while overseas. Franzus already sells immersion heaters that accept both 120 and 240 V. If you buy a heater, you would still need a cup, mug or a container to dip it in. Not stable, can tip and easy to burn. Just get the kettle. Besides all across Europe, electrical outlets are easy to find. Trains, hotel rooms, even in public restrooms. Just fill water, heat it, then store it in your container. Do your other job there and off you go!

The miniature Ibis is sized to boil water for one. Its modern Scandinavian design makes it an attractive office companion for boiling water to make tea or coffee. And, with its reasonable price, this kettle travels well to college to make instant noodles in a dorm room. Made of heavyweight polypropelene plastic with a copper-sheathed, nickel-plated heating element, the Mini Ibis holds a maximum of 27 fluid ounces of water (about 3-1/2-cups). It must be filled to a minimum of 7 fluid ounces--just enough to cover the heating element--to operate. Plugging the unit in and flipping up the switch below the kettle's handle turns on the power. The heating process is rapid and quiet: it takes only 4 minutes to boil 27 ounces of water and the sound is almost imperceptible.
