Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bodum 1308-16 Columbia 8-Cup Stainless-Steel Thermal Press PotCustomer Review: Sleek New Look to the French Press Summary: 4 Stars
I truly think that the French Press is the way to go in terms of making & enjoying a fresh cup of coffee. I have owned several French Presses over the years, but they have all had a glass carafe to them verses a carafe made of stainless-steel.
I just received my Bodum French Press a week ago and have used it several times already. Bodum makes great French Presses and this one seems to be made well too. I like the stainless-steel look as it is really popular these days in terms of kitchen appliances. This French Press is sturdy and well made, without being heavy. I also like that the carafe isn't made of glass, so one doesn't have to worry about the carafe breaking.
The only concern I have regarding this carafe is that the base of the plunger, where the filter is attached, is made of plastic... I am concerned that perhaps this may not hold up well over time and need to be replaced. Only time will tell I suppose. If it hadn't been for this small detail, I'd have probably given this French Press a five star rating.
Customer Review: Smooth perfect Java: Stays hot like lava. . . Summary: 5 Stars
I received this item as a birthday gift from a good friend. I have been lusting after a good thermal press-pot for months. The construction of this unit is first rate. Zero coffee grounds escape through the screen into the pot. It maintains that "lava hot" temperature that we here in Hula Town enjoy for quite awhile. Used properly, this press-pot lets you unlock the full flavor of your java. Cleanup is a breeze! Dump the grounds out, rinse the pot with cold water and dry in the dishrack. Much less effort than cleaning the electric drip pot! The price may seem steep, but it is worth every penny. And due to the stainless steel construction - - there are no safety issues that might arise were it constructed with glass. The handle is big, comfortable and offers a rock solid grip. After experiencing my java brewed in this, I will never go back to another method. Ever. I plan to take this with me when I go camping, hiking, etc. as well as to the office. Call it essential mission gear for a caffeineophile.
Customer Review: Bodum metal pot Summary: 4 Stars
I gave this pot to a family member as a gift after reading the many reviews online; however, neither the receiver nor I are as impressed as the other glowing respondents. While I've used Bodum glass for years, the metal pot's promise as an unbreakable container was just too appealing to pass up. However, I learned after a week that our beloved Peets coffee, Aged Sumatra, was inappropriate for the new Bodum. It accented acidity and potency well beyond our desire and that was with the recommended burr grinder. We then switched to Peets recommended "french press coffee," but found that the coffee while certainly strong had lost a lot of the nuance we had come to associate with premium beans. We also discovered that we were going through 8 oz packages of beans in 2 days. I felt like I ended up with a lot more coffee grounds than when I used our trusty melitta filter. Thus we don't use the coffee pot as often as we anticipated. It's put away, awaiting the rare occasion when we need it.
Customer Review: Durable, Reliable, Attractive Summary: 5 Stars
This is truly an outstanding product. I've used this press several times a week for more than five years and it looks almost as good as it did on the day it arrived from Amazon. At the time I bought mine, I also bought one for my best friend and her husband, and they both have used it daily ever since. It's truly an outstanding, functional, and aesthetically pleasing product. It isn't fragile like a glass French press, and it doesn't demand that your coffee be consumed immediately like a uninsulated glass press. And finally, I don't have to worry about cracking a cold glass press when I pour the hot water into this stainless pot. The water goes directly from tea kettle to press. And while the product description notes that it holds "nearly seven five ounce cups," no coffee drinker I've ever met drinks a five ounce cup. But given that I'm the only coffee drinker in my family, it's holds just right the quantity for me: a little more than two large cups.
Customer Review: I LOVE PRESSED COFFEE I LOVE PRESSED COFFEE I---- Summary: 5 Stars
AFTER DISCOVERING HOW AWESOME PRESSED COFFEE IS WITH THE SMALL UNBREAKABLE PRESS I BOUGHT,I STARTED LOOKING FOR A BIGGER PRESS AND ONE WITH A THERMAL CAPABILITY. I SAW THE REVIEWS OF THIS ONE AND DECIDED TO GET IT. THE POT ITSELF IS BEAUTIFULLY MADE, ALMOST A WORK OF ART IN STAINLESS STEEL AND I UNDERSTAND AFTER GETTING IT WHY ITS LIST PRICE IS SO EXPENSIVE. THAT SAID I HAVE TO TAKE AWAY THE PERFECT SCORE OF 5 STARS BASED ON THE WIMPY THIN TOPPED LID. AS OTHERS HAVE STATED BEFORE THERE IS ZERO INSULATION ON LID AND I AM SURE THAT WAS DUE TO COST CONCERNS BY THE MANUFACTURER. A LID THAT WAS BUILT LIKE THE POT ITSELF WOULD MAKE THIS A VERY EXPENSIVE COFFEE PRESS FOR SURE. I ALWAYS PUT A KITCHEN TOWEL ON TOP OF LID TO HELP KEEP THE HEAT IN AND THAT HELPS ALOT. I DOES MAKE AWESOME COFFEE AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINE ISNT IT. I GUESS I STILL GIVE IT A 5 STAR RATING SINCE 4 1/2 ISNT AVAILABLE AND 4 SEEMS TOO HARSH A NUMBER FOR SUCH A BEAUTY.
