Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker TROS1000 SpaceMaker Digital Toaster Oven

Customer Review: Took a little work to install
Summary: 4 Stars

I read the reviews before buying this "update" of an old classic. I was concerned about the screw length and sure enough there wasn't one long enough. One review said in Detroit he couldn't find the screw, well in Greensboro NC Ace Hardware is the place. I bought four 80 mm length M5 machine screws at $1.69 each (should be in the kit to begin with and 70 mm would be better). The old style once you mount the bracket you just slide the toaster in like closing a drawer. Not with the new one - you lock in the back and then have to pull - pretty hard - out and up to lock the front latches.

Customer Review: Excellent Product, A Little Hard to Install
Summary: 4 Stars

We really wanted an under-cabinet mountable toaster oven and this is about the only one available (besides one more from black and decker). This toaster oven works great! My In-Laws also have this model and we liked it so much we bought it for ourselves! The only negative is that it is a bit hard to install. It took my husband and father-in-law about an hour to install it and frustrated them to the max. My father-in-law also said his was just as difficult to install at his house, so I guess an hour worth of install is worth a well working toaster oven! :)

Customer Review: Would buy again
Summary: 4 Stars

We thought a lot and considered other reviews before we made this purchase.
We're glad we did. It's the space saver we wanted, and installation WAS NOT as hard as previous reviews led us to think. It takes some getting used to the digital controls as opposed to the buttons on our previous toaster oven purchased in 1999. Ten years is pretty good for a product to last, and we're hoping this one will prove just as durable.

We are happy with this product, and nothing like we read about it in other reviews has been our experience.

Customer Review: Constantly falls
Summary: 2 Stars

I read in some of the reviews before purchasing that this oven sometimes falls from its under-the-counter position. I thought sure in my infinite wisdom that I'd be able to solve any such problem. Well, I haven't been able to. I purchased this in June 2010 and it's now April 2011 and it constantly falls. I've bent the hooks all different ways, nothing works. I've just now contacted B&D to see if they've improved the item as I'd like it replaced. But I don't want a replacement if it's going to be the same unit. The oven itself works fine.

Customer Review: The mounting screws are too short (possible solution)
Summary: 3 Stars

Just like many other reviewers, I found that the mounting screws are too short for cabinets which have a 3/4 inch overhang. Although the screws supplied with the unit are metric (M5-08), the nut attached to the cabinet will take a standard 10-32 machine screw. Normally a metric nut will not fit a non-metric screw but the nut on the mounting plate has so few threads on it that it works. So, if you can find a 3" 10-32 screw, the problem will be solved.

I solved the problem by threading my own screw with a 10-32 die.
