Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker RC550 rice cooker in white with black accents and a glass lid.Customer Review: I threw it away after 1 use Summary: 1 Stars
I have never used a rice cooker before so I followed the instructions and started cooking 2 cups of rice. I checked on the rice about 1/2 hour later and the water was shooting out of the steam hole and all over my kitchen wall. I thought I did something wrong so I went online and found that the majority of the people who used this machine had the same problem. Also, the glass lid was making nises like it was going to break. I found a person on here that the glass actually broke on. This machine is dangerous and should not be left unattended. If I could give it zero stars I would but the lowest you can go is 1 star.
Customer Review: Horrible Cooker Summary: 1 Stars
I am on my third RC500 Black and Decker rice cooker. Each one of them I purchased, used for about 3 months and then all of a sudden they stop working. When I plug it in the light does not come on in the front of the unit. This last time, I called Black and Decker and told them what happened and my situation and they were absolutely awful on the phone. They were not willing to help me they just encouraged me to locate my lost receipt and return it to the store. When I used it it was great, but three times in a row, this thing broke on me!!! Awful machine!
Customer Review: Not a good product Summary: 1 Stars
I have purchased this rice cooker twice. The first year it burned out, literally. I purchased another one and the same thing happened this morning, almost a year later. Pros: It is extremely easy to use, easy to clean, and is inexpensive. Cons: Do not use this product under cabinetry. It will cause moisture stains/damage, even if the cabinetry is mounted high. Foam will bubble out of the cooker and onto the counter. The life expectancy of this cooker is only 1 year with moderate to heavy use.
Customer Review: Fragrant Royal Basamati Rice Summary: 5 Stars
I love Royal Basamati rice... and found this cooker sold as an open item at Target on clearance for much less than what the website says it is. I went ahead and purchased it. I brought it home and washed it up.
I put a cup and a half of dry basamati rice in the cooker and three cups of water. By the time I grilled up the lamb kabobs the rice was done and it was heavenly fragrant and delicious.
Cleanup was a breeze. Even if it lasts me a year with heavy use it would be worth the money.
Customer Review: Ignore suggested water lines inside the maker Summary: 3 Stars
My family has been using this rice maker for about year -- I'll admit, it took some experimenting to figure out the correct water to dry rice ratio. After about two batches of soggy rice we decided that the lines for water marked inside the maker were useless.Instead, we use the included plastic measuring cup for everything and ignore the pre-marked suggestions. For every measuring cup of rice we add approx. 2 measuring cups of water. The results have been perfect every time.
