Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker KEC600 Cordless Can Opener, White

Customer Review: Too bad they seem to be extinct; non-replaceable battery
Summary: 4 Stars

Probably the best little can opener that has ever existed, especially for people with arthritic hands. I'm on my third and my mother is on her second. It's just a shame that they didn't make it like a cordless phone, easy to snap open and replace the battery. Once the battery dies--and it will--you are probably done. I have had very limited success with my attempts to jerry-rig a phone battery into it. And now it look like they've stopped making it. What is wrong with B&D, they also seem to have stopped making one of the best rice cooker/vegetable steamers I ever owned.

Customer Review: A product that needs to be rolled back to the earlier model
Summary: 2 Stars

Th earlier model (KEC300) is what I wanted to replace since I couldn't find a rechargeable battery for it. But this KEC600 model does not work on small size cans (smaller than 3" dia). At least I couldn't get it to open one even after 45 minutes of messing around with it. And I had about 6 years of experience using a B&W cordless can opener before. Most of the cans we have are coconut milk cans that measure around 2.8" dia.
A very ill-conceived design I would say. Why didn't they stick with the earlier model instead of trying to fix something that's not broke ???

Customer Review: World's Best Cordless Can Opener
Summary: 5 Stars

Lightweight and cordless, it is a dream to use in the kitchen. It's three best features are the automatic stop when it has completely opened the can, the locking feature which eliminates the need to hold the trigger down while it is operating, and the fact that on large, heavy cans, you can just let go of it and it walks itself around the can until the lid is completely cut open. Too, if you need to open a large can outside of the kitchen, the garage for instance, it's immediately available. A comfortable grip and minimum space on the kitchen counter are added bonuses.

Customer Review: Shame on Black and Decker
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a house full of Black and Decker appliances and power tools. This product is very attractive and ergonomic in its design. That is where B&D's reputation ends. The can opener must be placed a certain way in the base or it will not charge. It will not open a large can as the battery goes dead 3\4 of the way around the lid. The cutter falls off when you raise the handle to remove the opener from the can. I have never been disappointed in a B&D product before. This one is very poor. Shame on B&D for allowing an appliance of this poor quality to wear its proud name.

Customer Review: Not the greatest
Summary: 2 Stars

I have this can opener and it is a real disappointment. It doesn't pierce the cans reliably and often stops halfway around. It works, most of the time, but it's terribly annoying. And it's even difficult to get it straight in the base so it will recharge--plus the base is very light weight so it tips over. I had a different model of walk-around-the-can opener from GE (which became Black and Decker) before--it wore out eventually--which worked a whole lot better. I don't open a lot of cans, but when you need a can opener it should work. It's not brain surgery.
