Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker KE2010A Dome Electric Kettle, WhiteCustomer Review: Dreadful electric kettle Summary: 1 Stars
This electric kettle has none of the following features that are standard on every other electric kettle I have used:
1) In case you only want hot water (not boiling) there is no off switch - you have to unplug from the socket to turn off
2) No lid - to look inside to see how full
3) No clear plastic kettle wall - as an alternative method of looking inside to see how full
4) No stand to put it on - so have to unplug from wall if want to move it more than the 3 feet (less actually) the cord allows
5) Unless there is a lot of water in it (usually more than I want to boil) it does not click off in a reasonable time - it goes on boiling and boiling.
Undoubtedly the worst designed electric product I have ever encountered. PRODUCT SHOULD BE WITHDRAWN FROM THE MARKET. I FIND IT DANGEROUS TO USE. I WOULD LIKE MY MONEY BACK.
Customer Review: No audible signal, can't switch it off Summary: 1 Stars
Despite the claim that this kettle has an audible signal, I watched it at full boil for five minutes with no signal. Maybe it waits until the water temperature is 212 F? If so, that doesn't do me much good at an altitude of 6800 feet, where water boils below 200 F. Just give me an old-fashioned whistle!
Despite the presence of what appeared to be an on-off switch, pressing the switch did not turn the kettle off. I had to unplug it from the wall.
The indicator light did come on after I turned it on. And it did boil water.
I decided not to test its claimed auto-off feature if it overheats. I'm returning it Monday.
Customer Review: Only basic features Summary: 4 Stars
Although this is a competent product, it is missing some of the nicer features: It doesn't have a cover you can open to see inside it, or clean it, or fill it. (You have to fill it via the opening in the spout, which takes a bit more time.) It doesn't have a window to view the water level; you also can't see how rapid the boiling is, although you can hear it. It doesn't have a switch to turn it off (it stops automatically when it has reached a full boil); you would have to unplug it to stop it prior to its automatic stop. It isn't cordless, so you have to pour it at the location at which it is plugged into the outlet, or unplug it. (The cord isn't very long.)
Customer Review: Fast and Quiet but... Summary: 3 Stars
This kettle boils very quickly and is incredibly quiet. You generally get what you pay for but I'm stunned that there's no way to shut the kettle off (other than unplugging it) - not good if you only want hot, not boiling, water. For this reason alone I'd look at alternatives...
Customer Review: B&D Electric Kettle Summary: 4 Stars
I like this kettle, it is lightweight, easy to handle. I love the fact that I do not have to remember "the base". The only problem that I have with it is that the power cord is too short. Other than that - it is a great kettle.
