It does the job. It doesn't seem as sturdy as I would have expected, but so far it has held up just fine.
**A year later, unit still works. The rubber grips for securing the base of the jar being unscrewed fell off - manufacturer charged me $20 for replacement pieces. It's basically just two 1" square pieces of thin rubber material with adhesive backing - absolute rip-off!!!

We purchased one for each of our mothers as gifts, and both love it. Each has some difficulty with arthritis in their hands, and this product allows them to open some jars they could not open otherwise (they both live alone). I was a skeptic when I ordered this item last year. My mother has arthritis and cannot open jars anymore - whenever we would visit, she would always have one or two waiting for us to open. The jar opener has proven to be her favorite gadget - it is easy for her to use and so far, has worked as promised. I bought this for my Mom who has arthritic hands. It will work if all the conditions are right.If the gripping section of the lid is on the upper part only, the opener will reach below and can't get enough grip to open the jar. This is a problem with Mason jars. If the jar has a smooth edged lid, it won't work. Product needs to go back to the Engineering Department.Customer Review: Great Product, and a big help!

I bought this for my mother who suffers from arthritis and lives alone. She said it works like a charm, and couldn't stop raving about it. She said she had given up buying some items because she couldn't get the jars open anymore, now she can. This is a blessing of a product, and we could not be more pleased with the purchase. I would definitely recommend!
