Customer Review: Lids Off Jar Opener JW200 - Black & Decker
Summary: 5 Stars

The Black & Decker "Lids Off Jar Opener" JW200 is an excellent product.

The one that we recently purchase is to be given as a Christmas gift. We have personally owned and used a "Lids Off" model JW200 for several years now and have not encountered a screw on jar lid that it could not remove.

It is most simple to use: Assuming that the unit is plugged in - Simply raise the upper part of the unit, set the jar in place, lower the upper part onto the jar and push the go button. No other magic tools required, no red-faced exertion and no X-rated language or thoughts necessary. It would be most valuable to anyone who may have a physical handicap or simply does not have the strength necessary to grip and open jars by hand.

Interestingly, When we decided that we wanted to give one of these products as a gift, we were unable to find it in any of the local stores. My wife suggested that we try Amazon.com.....Great idea.Black & Decker JW200 Lids Off Jar Opener, White

I live with 2 women and a baby.
One of the women was born with one hand and has considerable trouble opening jars.
The other woman is almost 60 and the baby is about 2.
I also have problems opening jars, because of my occupation, with my hands losing strength more and more as I grow older.
This thing really helped us out, especially with all the jars of babyfood we have had to open.
I don't see much of a limitation of jar size with what we buy, the thing will open pretty tall jars and does even the little babyfood jars no problem. (we don't buy many pickles or giant jars of mayo)
I am not sure I'd say it is the greatest thing since sliced bread but it seems very durable and easy to use.
It is a little awkward at first but once you figure out how to get the base adjustment to work right there's nothing to it.
Also there are 2 little black pads that they put on but they keep sliding off, just throw them away, it works fine without them. Maybe they changed that by now.

Anyway, we love this thing. I hope you will too.

Customer Review: Lids off - quick and easy too!

OK, so I have to say, this gadget did not at first glance seem worthy of taking up any of my precious kitchen space. I mean, I have a HUSBAND, so who needs an electric jar opener?

Well poor Husband had a little accident whereby he detached his biceps tendon in his left arm (OUCH!) and subsequently had surgery. Needless to say, he became instantly useless to me for jar-opening purposes!

My Dad had been given one of these for Christmas and the instant my Husband saw it - he NEEDED one! So I ordered it up here at Amazon.

I must say, it works as advertised, is lightweight, takes up very little space (I keep it on the kickplate under my kitchen countertop and only put it ON the countertop when using it) and is a great conversation piece!

Now, whenever I need a jar opened, I STILL call Husband, but only because he has proclaimed the jar opener HIS DOMAIN and not to be used by wimmin! LOL! Fine by me - but I HAVE used it when he's not home and trust me, it IS easy!

I bought this product back in May of 2003, when it first came out. I saw it advertised on TV. My wife had been complaining for years that she could no longer open jars, and she had to wait for me or my stepson to get home, to open them. Since her Birthday is in May I decided to buy one for her Birthday. At the time this was a new product and I could not find in any stores. I ordered it from the Black&Decker web sire for $49.99 with free shipping.
I gave this to my wife on her birthday and she loves it. She uses it all the time for the jars that she can not open. All you do is sit a jar in the machine, close the holders on the bottom of the jar, and then lower the top down to the lid. Then you push a button and it turns the lid and takes it off. A great invention, what took so long for it to come out? I see you now can get a good deal on Amozon for only $39.99 don't pass up this great deal.
My only complaint is that the top dosn't raise high enough to open soda bottles.

Customer Review: Excellent for anyone, very helpful

I purchased this product for my parents who are elderly and have trouble getting the power going to open jars and spent a lot of time leaning over jars wretching away or pounding the tops with various objects to try to get into things. They also do a lot of canning and the resulting jars can be a challenge for even the young and active jar opening public. This product was easy to use (though you'll need to demo it for your folks the first time) and it managed the tuff to open samples we selected to test it with no problem or hesitation. I'm going to get one for myself in fact. Well worth the space it takes to simply be able to open a jar without the drama of getting every spoon, mallot, and prying device in the home out when a jar has gotten itself sealed beyond all reason. Great product. Was worried it might be a gimic but it does what it claims, and it's actually sort of cute - in a decorative appliance sort of way.
