Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker EHC650 2-Speed Food Chopper with 3-Cup BowlCustomer Review: Perfect for small jobs, and softer foods Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this chopper because it had good ratings and had a larger capacity than other choppers in this price range.
When I got the chopper the first thing I did was test its cutting ability by trying to chop cubes of cheddar cheese. As I expected it did not work so well. The cheese sticked to the sides of the container and the blades coudn't slice through the cheese. This didn't dissapoint me though, as cutting cheese with any sharp blade is difficult.
With all other types of foods I have tried like nuts, onions, garlic, peppers, etc.. , it works great.
The only con, I feel, is that when the food is being processed some of it sticks to the uppper motor and it's a little harder to clean since you cannot submerse the unit in water. Other than that, the rest of the parts come apart very easily and can be cleaned in no time.
Summary: Great for small jobs of softer foods that won't stick to blades
Customer Review: outstanding! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this on a whim because I was so frustrated with my 3-cup cuisinart food processor; I am so happy I did because this is an outstanding processor/chopper! It is so simple to use, no twisting on of lids, no jamming of parts and its pretty quiet compared to my other food processor. It doesn't do a big quantity of food at a time, about 1/2 a large onion, but it chops things quickly and very finely too. I love the ease of use: drop the blade in, drop the food in and just place the top on and push the button! When done lift lid off and lift blade out, no twisting and turning.... it's great. I had severe arthritis in my hands and this is the nicest, gentlest processor I have ever used. Even the operating of the control buttons is easier; just lay your hand on top and your fingers naturally lay across the blue controls. I am so excited about this that I'm getting one for my sisters and mom!
Customer Review: fast, efficient food chopper Summary: 5 Stars
Black and Decker procucts have unsurpassed longevity and mechanical integrity. I have owned many Black and Decker products over the years and have grown to look at them as staple items. Today, I own a toaster and a rechargeable can opener both made by Black and Decker. The former is over ten years old and has worked beautifully since the day I bought it. The toaster, though relatively new, functions perfectly and is as reliable and efficient as the can opener. I expected no less from the Black and Decker chopper and I was not let down. It is compact and cuts cooking preparation time in half. The buttons that control the pulsations are located on top. When holding it, your thumbs are in easy reach of the controls. For anyone with wrist difficulties, for example due to carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis, it can be grasped comfortably and the buttons can be depressed with little effort.
Customer Review: Can you give an item 10 stars? Summary: 5 Stars
This thing rocks. There is no other way to put it.
I gave it to my mother as a "replacement" Christmas gift and she loves it.
First, I spent about $60 and bought her a Magic Bullet. It was anything but magical. It got brought back to Linens and Things by New Years.
For $20 I figured I'd give this thing a try. It's now May, and there isn't a conversation that passes where I don't hear "and that chopper you got me is so wonderful."
I had played with it myself and can say it is a easy to use, and more importantly easy to clean up to container.
The BEST part: With only two settings, it is more than capable of doing a variety of chops, from course to fine. Just keep hitting the buttons until you like what you see in the clear container.
Dollar for dollar, this is by far the best christmas gift I've ever given anyone.
Customer Review: Works, but... Summary: 2 Stars
This works, but there are several design flaws. This chopper minces veggies to a very fine consistency, finer than I would prefer them actually for sauteing. Also, the lid of the chopper houses the motor and you cannot immerse the lid in water to wash it. The underside of the lid comes into direct contact with whatever food you mince, and is a pain to clean! Also, as far as safety goes, the lid does not lock onto the plastic container where the chopper blade is. I worry about storing it like this, as the lid/motor just sits directly onto the blade, and is very easy to take off/knock over....not safe if young children were to come into contact with it in the cupboard. It is also very top heavy, as the motor is on top, so I worry about storing it up high and having the motor get bumped and knocked off onto the floor and broken. I think improvements could be made on this product.
