Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker EHC650 2-Speed Food Chopper with 3-Cup BowlCustomer Review: Fabulous! Summary: 5 Stars
What a splendid little machine! I gotta say that this little buster here is the real mccoy. It doesn't come with any bells and whistles, but then again, it does what it says it will do, in as effective a manner as any food processor in the business.
I try to eat as healthily as I can. The EHC650 has made this dream a reality. Just as an example, I don't foresee myself buying much factory processed pasta sauce going forward, since the EHC650 can process a raw organic tomato into liquid in less than one minute. Today I did that, and then added onions, ginger, and a host of other ingredients -- also processed by the EHC650 in less than one minute -- and had a sumptuous home-made pasta sauce in less than 5 minutes.
I can see myself using this new buddy of mine for a whole bunch of different applications. Parents who have infants might say good-bye to Gerber and just use this simple piece of magic to prepare a whole host of healthy organic meals for babies.
Cannot recommend it strongly enough.
Customer Review: Wife loves it! Summary: 5 Stars
We have had this for about an year or more now. We bought this one after a previous black & decker chopper finally gave up after 5 years of use. So, we liked the brand from that history. I did do some research looking at reviews at multiple sites, and while this one did not have the best reviews, it had pretty good reviews and from a price & review combination, it looked like the best deal.
After about an year now, i am glad to say, the product works just as well as the day we bought it. We were initially wondering if the design of having the motor attached to the head vs the base would be difficult, but that has not been much trouble. My wife loves to cook and this is one of her daily use tools, and if she was not happy with how it works, we would have had to buy another unit long back. With this chopper, i have actually heard her recommend it to some of her friends - and let me tell you this - it has to be really good/useful to get her to recommend it to her friends!!!
Customer Review: Not as good as the cuisinart Summary: 3 Stars
Hi I've had my chopper for a 4 years now. It's okay, It can do the work. Although when chopping lots of nuts or hard food items. You've got to be sure to securly hold the base down when chopping so the whole thing doesn't go flying in circles. I decided to replace my Black & Decker because I was beginning to make baby food everyday, and I found it wasn't doing a good job a liqufying some of the ingredients. I bought the cuisinart chopper. The cuisinart is extremly powerful for such a small appliacne. The cuisinart is great for making baby food and for really tough jobs, the black & decker looks like a real joke compared to the cuisinart. One more thing I don't like about the black and decker is cleanup time. The lid contains the motor, so you feel hesitant to really scrub and wet the top with soap and water. The cuisinart has a detachable top from the motor, so the whole thing can pop into the dishwasher. Well this review is from someone who uses her chopper a few times a day.
Customer Review: My new best friend! Summary: 5 Stars
I have never owned a food processor/chopper before. But I have been doing a lot more cooking in the past year, and wanting to try things that specifically call for a food processor. I read hundreds of reviews on different products before choosing this one. And I have to say that based on the FEW bad reviews, I was extremely nervous. After using it, I have to say, it was completely unnecessary to be nervous! This thing is amazing! Like I said, I've never owned one before, so this could be the reason I'm so impressed...but it does an amazing job. And since I am only feeding myself and my fiance, it is the perfect size.
As for the reviewers who said it leaks if you put liquid in it...the directions CLEARLY state that there is a max liquid line on the bowl. So if you can't take two minutes out of your day to read the directions, I guess you have to learn the hard way.
For a two person household, or for smaller jobs, I'd recommend this product to anyone.
Customer Review: functional deficiencies Summary: 1 Stars
Pros - perfect size, simple to use, quiet, effective chopping
Cons -
1) After my third use (total motor time perhaps 60 seconds and hand washed between uses), a hairline crack developed in the cup/base where a metal pin is molded into the plastic cup. I think this is a function of design and is unlikely just a freak manufacturing defect.
2) The chopper is intended for use with liquids (it even has a liquid line on the cup/base), but with the least amount of liquid, it splashes up on the underside of the motor unit. This is very hard to clean. There is a little contact switch so that the motor won't turn if not seated on the base properly. Food/liquid always ends up there and in the drive shaft. The motor unit is not sealed underneath, so you can't rinse or immerse this.
I don't have experience with any other unit, so I can't say what is better. But my suggestion is save your money and keep looking.
