A few months ago my old electric can opener finally gave up and I headed to the nearest store to find a replacement. I am usually in a hurry to prepare a meal, and find the electric can opener absolutely indispensable for saving time and effort. To make a long story short, I returned two other can openers from well known makers because they just were not up to the task; i.e. they would tip forward with heavy loads, and required too much assistance from me to open a can. I then found and bought the Black & Decker EC1200 can opener, attracted by its sleek looks, and it seemed tall enough for juice cans etc. The first can I opened, a large 28oz. can of tomatoes, was an indication of things to come. The opener was steady, it was easy to lock the can under the cutting knife, and at the end of the opening process the built-in magnet held the lid in place, which is important to me. I don't like to fish for it in the contents of the can. By the way, I hardly ever use the knife sharpener or bottle opener, that was not a consideration. I have since opened too many cans to count, always with the same great results, it is hands free, solid, sturdy - and each time I am glad all over again that I don't have to do this by hand. Black & Decker has a winner, and everyone visiting my kitchen has expressed a desire to also buy this opener. I have a reputation as an excellent cook, and my "tools" in the kitchen have helped me get there. If you are tired of having your hands hurt from manually opening cans or have an old electric opener and need a new one -- save yourself aggravation and buy this one!

The Black & Decker Grand Openings can opener takes full-grown cans into account-whether its family-size tomato sauce or imported espresso grounds. Standing 9-1/2 inches tall, the device has no problem handling large and tall cans. The easy-touch cutting assembly is comfortable to use, removes for cleaning, and features power pierce cutter. Once in action, it advances automatically around the can and shuts off when the lid is removed. A magnetic lid catcher keeps lids from dropping into open cans. Extras on this model include a built-in bottle opener on the front of the machine and a pull-through knife sharpener on the back with two slots for long or short knives. The opener also has a substantial circular footprint for stability and a cord-storage compartment in back. Cord storage area WhiteEverything from little tuna and soup cans to tall coffee and juice cans fits under this countertop electric opener. A built-in knife sharpener and bottle opener make it a convenient tool for busy households. The draw-through knife sharpener (not recommended for top-quality knives) on the opener's backside has two slots for different-size blades.
